Position Scope:

This role leads the ~95 person Corporate Finance Team, which continues on its transformation journey (including with the adoption of a new ERP in 2024). The Corporate Finance Team is responsible for internal, Board and external reporting of OMERS consolidated results (on an IFRS and management reporting basis), and for related “top of the house” finance functions.

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of 4 to 5 direct reports (at the VP-level), to set and monitor progress against the Corporate Finance Divisional Scorecard and 3-year roadmap. Leadership includes objective-setting and performance assessment; actively developing through providing experience, coaching and candid feedback; succession planning; compensation decisioning; and team- and community-building.

  • Reviewing, finalizing and occasionally presenting to the Audit & Actuarial Committee (AAC) our quarterly reporting on OMERS financial results (actual and forecast), on the valuations of significant “Level 3” assets, on OMERS external reporting responsibilities, and on relevant policy updates. Attend AAC meetings quarterly.

  • Executing OMERS term note issuances to international institutional investors, and Relatedly, developing OMERS investor relations and credit rating relations

  • Directing and sponsoring key ongoing change initiatives related to processes and tools for all components of the Corporate Finance function. This includes significant upgrades in automation, documentation, process flow and timing, and rationalization.

  • Ensuring Finance fulfills its co-leadership role in the drafting, socialization, review, audit and approval of OMERS Annual Report and mid-year investment update. This role works in close partnership with OMERS Communications.

  • Planning, consolidating, analyzing, communicating and facilitating the approval of OMERS Annual Operating Plan, which sets out annual and multi-year consolidated return, deployment and expense targets. This includes approval by OMERS various Executive and Board Committees.

  • Actively participating in and locally leading the adoption, integration and sustainment of OMERS new ERP system; similarly, participate in other Finance-wide transformation initiatives, as they arise.

  • Ensuring controllership of OMERS Corporate and Pensions annual expense budget, including assessing its merit, communicating and achieving its approval by the Board, and monitoring variances from budget.

  • Sponsoring the Procurement function, including its ongoing advancement in the areas of vendor governance, ESG and process efficiency.

  • Developing rich and effective relationships with various external stakeholders, including credit rating agencies, banks and dealers of OMERS term notes, external auditors, and consultants and professional services firms.

  • Demonstrating presence, availability and care for the broader Corporate Finance team.

  • Participating broadly in OMERS-wide initiatives, groups, committees and events.

Qualifications:

  • Professional designation: CPA, CA.

  • >15 years’ relevant Finance experience in complex, multi-dimensional investment or pension organizations

  • Superb communication skills, across formats (written, verbal, PPT).

  • Strength in building and maintaining multiple key relationships with peers across Finance (including Finance teams in OMERS business units); Total Portfolio Management; Risk; Internal Audit; Data & Technology; Communications; Corporate Legal; the Executive team; and many others.
