Post-doctoral researcher in cell biology and optical imagingOrganization: CNRSAvailable from: February 1, 2023Send CV, publications, summary and references to:A 3-year post-doctoral position is open in the team “Morphogenesis of Macroalgae (MMA)” at the Station Biologique Roscoff (France) in the framework of the ERC-Adv project “ALTER e-GROW” (2023-2028). The objective is to map in 3D the cellular parameters (cell shape, cell mechanics, intracellular organisation) during the formation of 3D tissues in the embryogenesis of brown algae.ActivitiesPrepare algal material: culture, production of algal embryos, inoculation into microfluidic chips, marking of embryos (vital dyes and immunolocalisation), chemical treatments (osmotic shock, drugs, phytohormones), laser ablation.Carry out cell imaging using light microscopy on live and fixed cells.Write articles.SkillsThe candidate will have a PhD and preferably 2-7 years post-doctoral experience, with strong experience in confocal, two-photon and light-sheet imaging of living and fixed tissues. The candidate will be familiar with quantitative imaging approaches and analyses. He or she will preferably have experience with algae, plants, fungi or marine metazoans, and will be competent in managing their life cycle in the laboratory. He or she will have a background in developmental biology and an interest in tissue pattern genesis and mechanobiology. As the project requires technical developments, the candidate should have a high degree of autonomy, initiative and a strong taste for exploration and development of new methods, in addition to a great scientific curiosity.Work ContextThe “Morphogenesis of macroalgae” group focuses on understanding the morphogenesis of brown algae, with a strong appetite for mechanical modelling approaches, which are in turn hungry for quantitative cell biological data. Therefore, to feed the models, the team has recently developed functional imaging tools including time-lapse microscopy, microfluidics and laser ablation to follow algal embryo development. All facilities for microscopy, image analysis and algal culture and manipulation will be available on site. For the past 15 years, Bénédicte Charrier has been betting on brown algae as unique organisms with an original evolutionary trajectory independent of plants and animals to identify new mechanisms of multicellular development.InstituteThe Biological Station is based in the small port of Roscoff, in northern Brittany (Atlantic Ocean). It is located 20 km from the town of Morlaix, 60 km from the town of Brest and 3h30 from Paris by train. Founded in 1872, the Roscoff Biological Station (SBR) is a research and higher education centre for marine biology and ecology.
