1:1 Tutor (PRU)
We are looking for an experienced and motivated 1:1 Tutor within a Pupil Referral Unit in Sunderland to deliver tailored Maths and English sessions to students within their homes. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in tutoring, particularly in a PRU or similar setting, who is committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. The role will involve travelling to students' homes, so a full driving license is essential.

1:1 Tutor (PRU) role and responsibilities:
* Provide high-quality 1:1 tutoring in Maths and English to pupils who are unable to attend school, within their homes.
* Deliver engaging and personalised learning sessions, tailored to each student’s ability, learning style, and needs.
* Work closely with the PRU staff to ensure a consistent approach to learning and behaviour support.
* Monitor and assess students' progress, providing regular feedback to staff, parents, and carers.
* Develop individual learning plans in line with each pupil's educational needs and goals.
* Build positive and trusting relationships with students, helping them to re-engage with education.
* Ensure a safe and secure learning environment in the students’ homes.
* Maintain detailed records of each session, including lesson content, pupil progress, and any concerns.
1:1 Tutor (PRU) Non-Negotiables:
* Experience delivering Maths and English tuition, particularly in a 1:1 or small group setting.
* Full driving license and access to a vehicle, as travel to students' homes is required.
* Experience working with pupils with SEMH and behaviour challenges, ideally in a PRU or similar environment.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and their families.
* Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning needs.
* A flexible, patient, and empathetic approach to working with vulnerable learners.
* HLTA qualification or equivalent.
Desirable:
* Experience as a Functional Skills Tutor, particularly in delivering Maths and English.
* Experience working within a Pupil Referral Unit or alternative provision.
