Position Description

Summary

The General Superintendentis an integral member of the project team, primarily being the main point of contact on site. Main responsibilities include directing, planning, and coordinating the successful completion of demolition projects. The General Superintendent will work closely with operations, project management and health and safety to ensure safe and successful execution of jobs. The General Superintendentwill act as a senior resource, helping with and transferring knowledge of all technical aspects of demolition, remediation, excavation etc. as assigned and as needed, with the primary goal being to complete all projects on time and within budget.

Job Duties

· Provide essential leadership and coaching of all operations staff.

· Provide direction, guidance and mentorship to operational staff and site staff regarding structural demolition.

· Advise operations team as to the most efficient and cost effective ways of performing site work.

· Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to new and junior staff.

· Visit work-sites as required and offer guidance regarding work sequencing, best practices, optimal techniques etc.

· Attend various start-up, progression, close-out, in-house, and client meetings as required.

· In cooperation with the Project Manager plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established schedules as assigned.

· Work with the Safety department to develop and maintain safety and quality control plans and programs as required.

· Facilitate communication and logistics between the field and office.

· Lead and understand the full scope of each project to educate and direct Project Manager and Foreman as required.

· Respond to all site incidents as required and facilitate incident reporting.

· Ensure all projects are completed with worker Health and Safety as the utmost priority; complete site safety inspections as required.

· Manage multiple teams and set clear expectations, while keeping employees engaged in project scope and timelines.

· Ensure all sites are set up properly by working closely with dispatchers and other leadership.

· Ensure on-site compliance with regional (provincial and territorial) and other regulatory authorities.

· Ensure compliance with overall in-house and client Health and Safety Policy and Programs.

· Deliver disciplinary action warnings to employees as required.

· Manage multiple sites at one time.

Position Requirements

Requirements

· 7+ years’ of Superintendent/Site Foreman experience in the delivery of Demolition/Construction projects.

· Experience and knowledge of Project Management is a strong asset.

· Experience leading teams and pushing construction projects to close.

· Ability to analyze and evaluate complex problems and to plan and lead multi-disciplinary teams to execute demolition solutions.

· Knowledge of environmental legislation, standards, and guidelines related to demolition or within other construction domains.

· Knowledge of the engineering design, tender, and construction management processes and related contractual conditions for a variety of demolition technologies.

· Ability to delegate and achieve results through others.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

· Demonstrated willingness to be adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.

· Familiarity with demolition methods and legislation is a strong asset.

· Strong preference will be given to candidates with Viewpoint construction software experience.

Work Conditions

· Work in both an office setting and outdoors at multiple construction sites

· Work requires frequent travel to work sites to monitor the progress of work and to meet with Site Foremen and/or Clients, and may require out of town travel.

· Travel is necessary

· Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

· Frequently required to sit or stand for long periods

· Walking, bending, and kneeling is common

· May need to climb ladders or navigate inclined ramps at job sites

· Personal protective equipment will be required, e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, hard hat, etc.
