A Little About You

Your resume should show us:

  • 5+ years’ of experience in a construction inspection role for municipal or transportation projects
  • Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, from an accredited institution
  • Registered or eligible to register with ASET designations; or, as a P.Eng. with APEGA
  • Experience inspecting work for conformance to the specification and design intent
  • Experience monitoring contractor performance in transportation or municipal construction
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of design and construction professionals
  • Experience in construction inspection documentation, which includes preparation and or review of the following documents:
    • Meeting minutes, and daily/ weekly reports, site diaries, and photo record documents
    • Requests for information, submittal review, site instructions, and time and materials tracking
    • Progress quantity tracking and field measurements
  • Ability to understand and interpret construction contracts, specifications, engineering design, and the design intent
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Experienced Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and Civil 3D user
  • Established problem solving, and time management skills
  • Experience with bid preparation, specification writing and cost estimation
  • Experience preparing or reviewing traffic accommodation plans, detour plans, care of water plans, ECO plans and ESC plans
  • Experience with City of Calgary and/or Alberta Transportation construction specifications
  • B.Sc. CPM, CPESC or Can-CISEC designation
  • Previous construction survey and/or materials testing experience

A Little More About the Role
This role is based in Calgary with potential for travel within Calgary and surrounding area. You will require and must maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s License. A company vehicle will be provided.
Please note that increased working hours during the construction season are to be expected for this role. This can include night shifts, weekends, and holidays. With these increased hours you may have the option to bank overtime for time-off in slower winter months.

The Construction Inspector will be our on-site presence, the eyes and ears of ISL and our clients.

You will actively collaborate with contractors to implement construction designs in accordance with project specifications and clients’ expectations.

What a typical day might look like:
• Visit various sites to conduct site inspections, ask questions of the contractor to confirm conformance to project specifications, their ECO, ESC, TAS plans, and the clients expectations
• Interpret contract drawings and specifications as needed
• Scan, review and apply an agile mindset to identify issues before they happen
• Collaborate, and reach out to team members (Engineer of Record), relevant contacts and project partners to share ideas and gather relevant info to resolve on-site issues
• Communicate effectively with contractors during progress payment reviews of quantities, document daily the project progress, field changes, and deficiency lists
• Support the contract administrator as required
