The Director of Operations provides leadership to various Operations teams within Production, Materials, Supply Management, Scheduling, Process Engineering, and Logistics. The incumbent provides input to Strategic & Operational planning activities and is an advocate of Continuous Improvements in the way of product, process & supply chain improvements within Operations. This position manages the Manufacturing facilities and related strategies that drive Operational & Supply Chain activities to support multiple product line requirements. To be successful, this position requires the analysis of broad and complex issues along with the formulation of effective and efficient solutions to satisfy customer product quality and delivery expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Meets Business Unit (BU) financial targets (COGS, revenue, margins & inventory) Performance Measures.
  2. Oversees annual operating plan/budget.
  3. Responsible for Operations, Supply Chain and Manufacturing cost savings initiatives and efficiencies.
  4. Responsible for manufacturing plant management and performance metrics – quality, cost and delivery.
  5. Establishes plant vision, direction, and goals to achieve growth objectives.
  6. Responsible for the creation and implementation of robust business processes tailored towards “Best in Class” practices.
  7. Provides direction, leadership, supports, motivates, and retains high-caliber staff.
  8. Promotes “total customer satisfaction” (delivery, quality etc.) within all Ops teams.
  9. Actively involved in critical problem resolution via root cause analysis and project management activities.
  10. Manages the S&OP process while working with the VP Sales, Sales, Ops and Materials Managers.
  11. Supports and promotes BU initiatives, working closely with the VP and the remainder of the BU Senior Management Team.
  12. Holds regular communications and quarterly strategic planning meetings with staff.
  13. Participates in annual BU Strategic Planning Sessions to develop BU Operations strategies, fiscal Operating plans and budgets, departmental goals & objectives etc.
  14. Determines departmental staffing requirements as part of Operational planning/budgeting.
  15. Participates in various meetings including but not limited to; CMT, PMT, MBR, S&OP, Supplier Performance, Product Safety Committee etc.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree or diploma in business or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  2. At least 10 years’ experience in relevant Operations space
  3. Professional designation/certification in purchasing, materials management, quality management are desirable.
  4. Professional designation/certification in Lean Six Sigma is an asset.
  5. Professional development in people management.
  6. Specialization in Production, Supply and Operations Management.
  7. Experience in supply chain management including managing contract manufacturers with the electronics and mechanical expertise.
  8. Experience in ‘soft goods’ and military applications.
  9. Experience in mechanical and electrical military requirements would be an asset.
