The Analyst, Canadian Debt Investments, will report to the Director, Canadian Debt Investments and will support all members of the Canadian Mortgage team in Vancouver and Toronto.The Analyst position is a junior professional role, actively participating and supporting the Debt team to execute and manage investment opportunities. The Analyst plays a key role in the analysis of potential mortgage investment opportunities and monitoring existing portfolio investments. The Analyst also plays a supporting role in conducting due diligence, negotiations and structuring transactions.
Responsibilities
- Analyze direct or fund investments including the development of financial models
- Author and contribute to investment memoranda and support investment committee discussions
- Conduct general commercial mortgage industry and market research
- Assist due diligence of investment opportunities - evaluating past investment and/or financial performance, quality of management team, terms, documents, agreements and economic characteristics of investments
- Assist in the monitoring and management of existing investments
- Assist in analyzing, reviewing investment documents including legal documents, contracts, consents and preparing recommendation documents
- Actively adhere to compliance and risk management policies in addition to participating in business continuity planning
Experience
- Undergraduate university degree in finance or a related field. An MBA supplemented by a Chartered Financial Analyst, AACI or similar designation is preferred.
- 1-2 years of relevant industry experience in the financial industry in an institutional environment
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to construct complex financial models; detail-oriented and proficient in handling and analyzing complicated data sets; be resourceful in seeking and consolidating information from a variety of sources.
- Must be able to take initiative and take the ownership to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fluid and dynamic work environment dedicated to excellence;
- Must have advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
