Position Available: Solid Waste Planner

Our offices in the Greater Toronto Area: Waterloo, Mississauga, Markham, and Whitby, are looking to hire a Solid Waste Planner position in our growing Canadian Operations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conducting policy research
  2. Leading proposal writing for new projects
  3. Assisting project teams with Approval and Permit applications
  4. Leading report compilation and drafting text for summary documents
  5. Helping with the coordination of Open Houses for public consultation
  6. Creation of PowerPoint presentations for public meetings
  7. Reviewing sub-consultants reports and cross-referencing to policy and legislation guidelines
  8. Attending meetings as required and preparing meeting minutes or reports
  9. Manage solid waste projects related to waste management policy, organics processing, planning and approvals, waste diversion programs, zero waste and single-use item reduction strategies, material flow studies, feasibility analysis, and circular economy
  10. Technical contribution to solid waste master plans and strategies
  11. Develop and participate in public consultation programs and prepare public-facing content

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary education in environmental planning, environmental policy, waste management planning, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • 5-7 years of project experience in the waste management industry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well with people (staff and clients), and a demeanor that reflects genuine interest and ability to assess a situation and consider what people will be interested in/concerned with is required
  • Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project Powerpoint)
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Provincial and Federal Policy and Legislation
  • Experience working with First Nations (specifically in the waste sector) would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Ability to manage consulting assignments within a collaborative, team environment
  • Valid Drivers License
