Job Description
Summary:
This Director/Vice-President of Brookfield Renewable is a key member of the Corporate Finance team, reporting directly to the Vice-President, Finance. The Director/VP Controller will manage the accounting operations for Brookfield Renewable and will be involved in the quarterly financial reporting process.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working in a fast paced environment, is comfortable maneuvering in a large, geographically diverse, matrix organization, is process oriented, possesses a high degree of intellectual curiosity, is business savvy, and has a superior finance/accounting foundation. Exceptional leadership and communication skills are critical for this role, as the position will oversee a large team of highly motivated and dynamic professionals. This is a highly visible and very influential role in Brookfield with frequent and direct access to the business and senior leadership teams.
Accountabilities:
- Oversee the accounting function, responsible for the books and records of Brookfield Renewable as well as our quarterly consolidation process;
- Coordinate with the financial reporting team on new and complex transactions and its impact on public document disclosures;
- Connect with professionals from our global regional platforms to provide support and oversight for M&A initiatives and technical accounting matters;
- Coordinate with regional accounting leads to ensure overall accountability;
- Partner up with various stakeholder groups, both externally (auditors, consultants) and internally;
- Lead and oversee position papers on transactions initiated from our corporate platform;
- Establish and maintain robust processes over accounting operations, including ensuring key internal controls are adequate to meet quality standards, consistently applied, regularly reviewed, and SOX compliant;
- Monitor industry and regulatory trends and best practices and develop, implement, or update Brookfield policies as needed
- Prepare ad-hoc analyses and presentations for senior management group, as required.
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, business administration or other relevant technical discipline;
- CA or CPA designation with at least 8 - 10 years of post-qualification work experience in accounting/finance functions with at least 5 years of experience in managing teams;
- Possesses strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
- Highly analytical with great attention to detail;
- Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Exceptional quality standards and an ongoing desire to push for new approaches, insights and presentation methods;
- A process-focused individual with a passion to drive and deliver effective change in as short a period as possible;
- Strong stakeholder, negotiation and relationship management skills;
- Able to distill the complex into the simple;
- Results driven, highly analytical and has great attention to detail;
- Employs collaborative approach across all levels of the organization and is respectful of all opinions;
- Ability to work in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities.
