We are putting together a new care team, there are support worker and Team Leader hours available - Maidstone Area


Support worker and Team Leader required in the Maidstone area. Fantastic opportunity for an experienced support worker or team leader to work with a delightful 17 year old young man in the Maidstone Kent area to maintain his independence at home and in the local community, He would require help with all activities of daily living, interactive play, following his therapy program, feeding and general personal care.


Nearest Station: Maidstone


Wage/Salary:


Support worker £14.00 - £15.00 per hour dependent on past experience.


Team Leader role - £18.00 per hour.


Location: At home and in the wider community.   


Driver Essential?: Yes, as you would be required to drive my clients Wheelchair accessible vehicle.


Essential: One year plus supporting young adults with disabilities desired. Experience of working within a home environment. Experience of working within the care profession. Non-smoker/Vaper. DBS or happy to obtain one.

Term time: 1 x sleep in night shift a week of 8pm-8am on a rolling rota, 3 x afternoon shifts (4-8pm), every other Saturday; 12 hour shift of 8am-8pm.


School holidays: 3 days a week; 12 hour shift of 8am-8pm, 3 x sleep in night shifts a week of 8pm-8am on a rolling rota.


If applying for the Team Leader role it would consist of any of the above shifts (24 hours minimum) plus 5 team leader hours a week.


Recruiter: Brownbill Associates Ltd is assisting the client to recruit and employ a rehabilitation assistant / support worker to work within the team.


About the client:  My client is a bright, energetic and usually happy boy who has Cerebral palsy, he communicates using an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Device ) which we call his talker. Using his talker Oliver is able to let you know his thoughts, needs and wants. He enjoy listening/singing, dancing to music and anything to do with Doctor Who. He loves books and will happily spend hours in the book shops. He likes interactive play and loves socialising with friends and his family. He enjoys spending time with his older brother, Mum and Dad. He has two dogs who live with them in their adapted house.


Overview of Role: To assist in everyday activities to enable my client to be as independent as possible at home and within the wider community, to complete a daily therapy program and stretches to keep him as mobile as possible. My clients' care is therapy led therefore you would be in close contact with the therapy team and follow their specific therapeutic plans when assisting my client with all areas of daily living.


Requires help with: To maintain a high level of observation/supervision on the client, responding to his individual needs as appropriate.


To ensure individual needs of the client are met within the capabilities of the house and staff team.  


To contribute to the planning of appropriate support for the client and to prepare daily notes as required and participate in meetings, e.g. team meetings planning and case / school reviews if appropriate.


To assist with aspects of daily living tasks, ensuring dignity, respect and privacy are maintained at all times for the client.


To encourage the client to live a full, active and independent life as possible


To follow guidance from external agencies as necessary in relation to the individual needs of the client (Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapists etc)


To monitor medical supplies, and if running low to notify the clients parents to allow stock to be replenished.


To administer any drugs prescribed by hospital or G.P in accordance with the MARs sheet and parental direction.  My client has a PEG feed which all medication and night feeds are administered through.


To provide high standards of cleanliness, comfort and homeliness at all times.  To undertake some household duties relating to the client as and when necessary; also, to assist with the cleaning of the carer space /specific equipment and resources.


To work with the client’s family and friends. This may involve the highest degree of sensitivity and insight into family dynamics.


To be imaginative in finding new interests and activities for and with the client.


To support and encourage the client to develop his communication skills using his AAC and find new and interesting ways to support his speech and language therapy program at home, in the community and at school.


Who this job would suit: An experienced  support worker and / or team leader who is kind, professional, and is able to provide support in a sensitive way to enable my client to maintain his independence. You will be required to be flexible, respect that you are working within a family home, be adaptable in your work ethic, and be empathetic. You must also bring a positive, professional, respectful, calm energy to this role. An interest in physical rehabilitation would be beneficial as you will need to be physically fit and have past care skills and experience which can be transferred to work with a 17 year old man within his family home. Full UK driving license required. The family have two dogs who are part of the family so must be good with or around dogs.
