Role Overview:
As the Director of Electrical Engineering, you will bring 10+ years of post-graduate experience to lead the electrical engineering team across multiple large-scale projects. You will oversee the full project lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration of electrical systems within a multidisciplinary environment. This role is ideal for a proven leader with strong technical expertise and strategic vision, capable of mentoring a team of engineers and driving the company’s electrical engineering standards to new heights.
Role Responsibilities: Lead the electrical engineering division, setting the direction for electrical design across diverse sectors, including power distribution, lighting, life safety, and smart building systems.
Provide strategic oversight on the integration of electrical systems with other disciplines (mechanical, structural, etc.) during design, construction, and post-construction phases.
Serve as the senior technical authority and Engineer of Record, ensuring that all projects adhere to applicable codes (Canadian Electrical Code, BC Building Code, etc.) and industry standards.
Guide the adoption of advanced BIM/Revit practices to enhance design precision and coordination across the electrical team.
Collaborate with senior leadership to set long-term goals, manage resources, and ensure the delivery of sustainable, innovative, and cost-effective solutions.
Spearhead the review and approval of all major electrical design submissions, including feasibility studies, schematic designs, and detailed construction documents.
Play a key role in contract administration, issuing critical site instructions, addressing change orders, and resolving complex design or site issues during construction.
Conduct high-level engagement with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure project success and to strengthen relationships across the board.
Mentor and develop a high-performing team of engineers, fostering an environment of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and professional growth.
Take ownership of risk management processes within the electrical team, ensuring potential liabilities are identified and addressed proactively throughout the project lifecycle.
Champion the firm’s values of innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, ensuring these principles are reflected in all project outcomes.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; P.Eng certification required.
10+ years of experience in electrical design, with a proven track record of leading teams and delivering complex projects in building systems and infrastructure.
Expertise in Revit, BIM, and other industry-standard software for electrical engineering.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative design-build environment.
Comprehensive knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and sustainable design principles.
Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and client management skills.
