Job Requirements / Description
The successful applicant must have Early Child Care Supervisor Certificate from Alberta Staff Qualifications, a valid first aid certificate, and current criminal record check with vulnerable sector and previous experience as a program director or assistant director. The wage listed includes the GOV of AB wage enhancement.
Must be able to work between the hours of 7:00am and 6:00pm during operational hours and some evenings are required. Rotating between split shift and straight shift. This position is in Ratio with Children 90% of the time and about 10% administration.
The applicant must have experience with child care licensing visits, program planning, team leadership, strong communication skills, and experience with successfully completing accreditation achievement.
The Program Director is responsible for:
Duties:
Ensure and facilitate the smooth functioning of all aspects of the child care centre: program development, supervision, budget, enrolment and facilities
Maintain overall goals and objectives of the center and the adherence to the stated philosophy
Overall maintenance of all provincial licensing requirements and local governing agencies: social services, fire, health department
Fulfilling accreditation requirements and maintaining standards of excellence as outlined in Alberta Accreditation for Early Learning and Care Services Standards
Coordinates staff scheduling to maintain staff/child ratios as outlined in the Alberta Child Care Regulations
Oversee the care, safety and well-being of all the children at the center
Provide staff orientation, training, meetings and to provide staff with information and encouragement of continuing education.
To ensure all individuals hired by WELC have been interviewed, thoroughly screened, and are able to provide supporting documents prior to allowing them unsupervised access to children.
Maintain enrolment, parent orientation, parent education and parent involvement
Support staff in including family’s lives, diverse backgrounds and culture into the environment and planning.
Provides supervision, leadership and support to all centre staff.
Conducts ongoing evaluation of staff, program and facility
Networking with the community
Maintaining a professional attitude and respect for WELC at all times
Any other duties deemed appropriate by owner
Supervision:
Supervise all personnel – arranges substitutes for absent staff – designates acting director when absent
Ensure all staff have read and indicated they understand our up-to-date policies, procedures, health and safety policies and are able to ensure our program is maintaining a safe environment.

Skills Required:
Thorough understanding of children’s growth and development
Thorough understanding of appropriate programming
Sound knowledge of business practices
Ability to hire, train, and supervise adults
Commitment, flexibility and good problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate and maintain positive relationships with children, staff, parents and the community
Knowledge of community resources
Ability to represent the program within the community
Knowledge of nutrition, health and first aid
Ability to provide ongoing staff training sessions and maintain appropriate materials for staff and parent use
Planning and evaluation skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.62-$29.12 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
