We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Advanced Engineer - Containment, Civils and Structures, to be involved in in a game changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse. Job Purpose: Reporting to the Containment Civils Technical Lead, the Senior Civil & Structural Engineer will be responsible for delivering packages of civil and structural analysis and design work. This includes demonstrating the validity of the technical solutions developed under their direction, the delivery of a robust design and safety justification, and completion of appropriate governance and quality assurance. The candidate will also need to assist with the integration of the civil/structural design solution with interfacing structures, systems and components designed by other teams. This role offers the candidate the first opportunity for decades to work on the design development and Generic Design Assessment of a new nuclear plant design. Within the role you will have 3-5 direct reports, responsible for setting to work and the output of junior engineers within the team, where they are supporting the candidate on package delivery. This type of role would suit either a Senior Engineer, or a new Principal Engineer. Key Results & What Can Be Achieved in The Role: Generic Design Assessment Submissions submitted on time to agreed Quality Standards. ONR queries responded to on time. Technical packages within the roles scope delivered to agreed programme. Successful resolution of technical issues within the roles scope within the agreed programme. Quality Assurance activities completed to agreed programme. Demonstrable integration of conventional health and safety improvements to the design. Foster a supportive working environment and support junior members within the team. The Key Selection Criteria: Technical Leadership of Civil & Structural Engineering Teams The candidate should be able to provide demonstrable experience of leading civil and structural engineering teams on infrastructure projects, ideally within the nuclear or other highly regulated industries. This experience should include resolution of complex technical issues, developing justification of designs, development and management of requirements, control of risk and delivering to programme. Role specific knowledge and understanding - analysis, codes and standards, loading conditions.The candidate should be able to provide demonstrable experience of carrying out and overseeing structural analysis activities and be able to discuss the codes and standards used, as well as the challenges faced and the resolution of those challenges. The containment building has large, monolithic civils structures in reinforced concrete and/or steel plate composite, with interfaces to the containment vessel. There are extreme loading conditions such as earthquake, high temperatures, pressures, and withstand requirement of the structures against local hazards such as blast loads and missiles. Therefore, the candidate should have experience of the analysis, design and justification of some or all of these types of structures. Nuclear and conventional safety knowledge and experience.The role will require support to the Containment Civils Technical Lead on safety case integration and will require design substantiation against the nuclear safety functional requirements for all substructures work packages. Therefore, it is desirable (but not mandatory) that the candidate has awareness of nuclear safety cases and the role of engineering in their substantiation. A systems engineering approach to design development is being used, it would be beneficial if the candidate has experience of this methodology and an awareness or experience of using DOORS. Stakeholder management and Technical GovernanceThe role will require the management of interfaces with other disciplines across the project and contribution to Interdisciplinary Teams. Therefore, the candidate should have experience of stakeholder management on large projects or within complex organisations and have excellent communication skills. Team Leadership and BehavioursThe candidate will be responsible for supporting the Technical Lead with the management of the containment civils team. Qualifications & Training: The candidate should be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer or have sufficient work experience to demonstrate equivalence. They should also be able to articulate reasons for not pursuing Chartership if necessary. A recognised Project Management qualification would be beneficial but by no means necessary Pay and Benefits We anticipate paying a salary of between £48,000 > £62,000 (DOE) plus:- Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5% Benefits Allowance - £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
