As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing the backend systems that power our products and services. This role involves working with a variety of technologies to build scalable, secure, and high-performance systems that meet the needs of our growing user base. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and efficient backend solutions, driving innovation and technical excellence. This position will work in or around the surrounding areas of Mississauga, Canada.Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackend System Design and Development:Design, develop, and maintain backend systems and APIs that support our applications and services.Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in programming languages such as Go.Implement RESTful and GraphQL APIs, microservices, and serverless functions to ensure scalability and performance.Optimize backend systems for speed, reliability, and scalability to handle large volumes of data and traffic.Database Management and Optimization:Design, implement, and optimize database schemas for relational and NoSQL databases.Ensure data integrity, availability, and performance by optimizing database queries and indexes.Collaboration and Communication:Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define and implement backend solutions that meet business requirements.Participate in design discussions, architecture reviews, and code reviews to ensure high-quality software development.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, promoting best practices in backend development.Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.5+ years of experience in backend development, with a proven track record of building scalable and reliable systems.Strong experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-native services.Proficiency in backend programming languages, such as Java, Go, or Scala.Expertise in designing and implementing RESTful and GraphQL APIs.Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes) technologies.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, with a commitment to delivering results on time.$138,500 - $187,500 a yearCurrency - CAD - $The above salary range is a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate of what Sonatus could reasonably expect to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
