Job Requirements / Description
An icon of Brutalist architecture.
The Barbican is one of the UK’s most treasured architectural landmarks. No detail was overlooked, from the 40-storey towers to the cutting-edge theatres and cinemas.
Now, picture your new office…
This stunning Grade II listed building houses two art galleries, two theatres, three cinemas, a concert hall, and a tropical conservatory—all part of one of the world’s leading arts centres. And sitting right alongside it is the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In this role, you’ll be the in-house technical expert for all things engineering at both the Barbican Centre and Guildhall School. You’ll provide key advice on their 20-year forward maintenance plan and annual cyclical works. With energy supplied by an off-site power station, this setup is as unique as it gets.
You’ll work closely with the Mechanical Engineering Services Manager and take the lead on everything Electrical. Strong technical expertise, compliance knowledge, and stakeholder management skills are essential. As part of a close-knit team, you’ll report to the Head of Engineering & Projects, and once settled, you'll jointly lead the engineering team alongside the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
We’re looking for someone electrically biased, ideally with a degree in Building Services Engineering (or a related field). But if you’ve got the experience to back it up, we’d love to hear from you too.
What’s in it for you?
You’ll enjoy some fantastic benefits, including an LGPS pension with a generous 21% employer contribution—so you’re set for the future. Add to that a 35-hour workweek, 28 days of holiday plus bank holidays, flexible working, and discounts at the Barbican’s restaurants and events. Not to mention a range of health and wellbeing perks.
So, what’s next?
Apply now, or reach out to Tom Morrison at Oyster to learn more. Don’t worry if your CV isn’t up to date—just send what you’ve got or connect with us on LinkedIn, and we’ll take it from there.
Oyster has an exclusive partnership with the Barbican, so all direct or third-party applications will be forwarded to us
