JOB SUMMARY: The Energy and Decarbonization Engineer is responsible for directly engaging Hydro Ottawa’s customers to provide education and support in accessing relevant programs, and implementing energy reduction and decarbonization projects. This includes having a strong knowledge of all relevant programs available, both ones that Hydro Ottawa is directly involved with, as well as other programs that customers can access. The Energy and Decarbonization Engineer is also responsible for providing initial facility analysis to identify energy reduction and decarbonization strategies and opportunities that the customer can pursue further. The Energy and Decarbonization Engineer works closely with other stakeholders, including consultants, financing and funding organizations, and others, to provide holistic support to customers. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Engage with eligible customers to promote and facilitate access to energy and decarbonization programs. Summarize details of all relevant energy and decarbonization programs and identify eligibility criteria for customers. Conduct relevant background research to help customers understand the role these programs can play to support their energy and decarbonization efforts. Utility data analysis to identify trends, benchmark, quantify energy use and GHG emissions, etc. Facility walkthroughs to identify energy saving or decarbonization opportunities or strategies, including high level calculations to quantify costs and benefits. Review of capital plans or equipment replacement schedules with a goal of properly informing energy saving and decarbonization efforts, and maximizing support from relevant programs. Review of existing consultant reports, studies, project plans, etc. to identify opportunities for program support, and to help customers implement recommended measures. Undertake consultative sales approach and leverage technical abilities to ascertain needs and business drivers. Contribute to developing business cases, work plans, processes, and tools to support the successful execution of energy efficiency and deep retrofit projects. Support the communication of energy saving or decarbonization projects to customer decision makers, including business case development. Support the application process for relevant energy or decarbonization programs, including writing, documentation gathering, providing education about relevant financing or funding options, and connecting customers to other relevant organizations that offer tools and solutions. Develop relevant Measurement and Verification strategies, to support reporting requirements, both for program rules and for customer needs. Identify mandatory and/or voluntary benchmarking and labeling programs, certification and awards programs, or other target setting or declaration initiatives that the building owner can participate in. Support documentation and reporting of program budget, metrics, etc., as per program rules and populate Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system with customer information and program details. Engage with relevant stakeholders, program delivery partners, including consultants, funding organizations, government agencies, etc., as needed. Evaluate progress and the success of existing strategies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering. Be, or be able to become, a Professional Engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario. Experience in energy/carbon management and building systems and have a good understanding of mechanical systems and HVAC equipment. Minimum 2 years relevant work experience, with conducting site investigations, energy analysis, energy and carbon planning, supporting project delivery, and broad stakeholder engagement. Experience with life cycle assessment and cost benefit analysis. Climate change experience such as energy transition, building science, and the role of utilities in leading solutions for climate change. Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite. Experience analyzing and managing program metrics. Project/Program management experience considered an asset. English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid Driver’s license - Class G. Government of Canada secret level security clearance. This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model.
