Job Requirements / Description
Practice Details:
Kelowna General Hospital is seeking an Acute Care General Surgeon to join the Division of General Surgery.
Our Division of General Surgery consists of a highly collegial group of 9 General Surgeons who support Complex Surgical Oncology, Colorectal, MIS/Bariatric, Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic, Endoscopy, and Trauma surgery. Division members share call and resources equitably based on FTE appointment and support a shared referral model.
The Acute Care Surgery program at KGH is supported by protected daytime OR access 3 days a week and an on-site supported "rapid access" clinic 2 days a week. All Division members participate in ACS call.
A full-time position is being offered and will include Acute Care Surgery (8 weeks minimum) and Trauma (8 weeks minimum). Opportunities for more ACS weeks are available depending on the candidate's preferences. The position also offers optional elective OR time outside of ACS responsibilities to ensure a balanced and rewarding practice for the candidate (~1.5 OR days per ACS week). The position does not include endoscopy responsibilities.
Trauma service coverage includes covering the Trauma inpatient service for a week at a time. During this week, the Trauma physician is expected to lead trauma resuscitation as trauma team leader and admit Trauma patients. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide both local and regional Trauma education as well as participate in quality improvement and program building initiatives.
KGH is a teaching site for the University of British Columbia Southern Medical Program. The candidate will be expected to work with and teach students and residents who also support the ACS service. No research responsibilities are a requirement of the position; however, such opportunities are available if desired by the candidate.
Locum experience with the Division is an important asset, and candidates are strongly encouraged to contact the Division about locum opportunities.
