About the Team:The WELL EMR Group is responsible for the development and support of the OSCAR platform, a leading Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software in Canada that supports thousands of providers and millions of Canadian patients across the country. Primarily located in the greater Toronto area and the greater Vancouver area, the team currently works remotely due to COVID with expectations to remain remote for the near future. We are remote first with hybrid support where desired. Position Summary:Reporting to VP Engineering, the Director of Development will oversee the Oscar engineering team (currently 20 developers) and is responsible for the technical execution of the full Oscar engineering roadmap.What you will be doing:Technical Execution: As the lead of the engineering team, your key responsibilities is the delivery of quality software that delights our customers and meets our strategic objectives. Success factors: % of Epics that are delivered on time is greater than 80% Rate of software bug injections is reducing quarter over quarter. Deployment frequency is increasing quarter over quarter.Prioritization of Technical Projects:Working with the product management team and your lead staff developer, you will ensure that projects supportive of the product roadmap are identified and advocated for. Success factors: Improvement in developer productivity through the leveraging of appropriate tools. Improvement in observability and user data metricsTalent Development: The OSCAR EMR engineering team is a combination of youthful and energetic talent with a growing balance of experienced developers. Providing coaching, goal setting and personal development support for all levels of the team is an important responsibility of the role. We believe that a team that is actively growing will produce its best outcomes. Success factors: Team members are actively working towards and tracking against stretch goals and learning objectives.Greater than 95% voluntary staff retention rate within your first 12 monthsTechnical Alignment: Working with your peers’ technical leads at sister companies within the Provider Solutions business unit at WELL, you will align regularly with other engineering teams to drive enterprise technology re-use and reduce duplication of effort across teams. You are familiar both with the execution of modern software development tools and practices as well as in building high performing software development culture and teams. Skills: Programming: You are comfortable with the JVM ecosystem including Spring, Hibernate and have comfort in the Angular frontend framework sufficient to provide technical guidance and direction. Architecture: You have a strong mind towards modern architecture including the Azure platform, Identity systems, modern authentication flows, data systems, etc. Communication: Able to communicate clearly in a structured and thoughtful fashion. Provides context (background) and clarity (details) as required and appropriately. Direct. Coaching: Is eager to help others. Loves to see the team grow and improve.
