Overview:
Our client is seeking an experienced Data Architect to join their new Enterprise Architecture team. The Data Architect will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of our organization’s data architecture framework. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data strategy & governance, data management, data modelling, data integration, data privacy, and data protection to drive business transformation and innovation. They will collaborate with other architecture domains & cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and integration across the organization, while capturing and analyzing the data architecture.

What you will be doing:

  • Develop and maintain the organization’s data architecture framework, aligning strategic objectives with technology and process improvements.

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand current and future business and data requirements, identifying opportunities for optimization and innovation.

  • Design and implement data architecture improvements, leveraging technology and best practices to drive efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure the seamless integration of business and IT initiatives.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members and other stakeholders on enterprise architecture principles and best practices.

  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of data platforms, tools, and services that support the data architecture strategy.

  • Support the delivery and implementation of data governance practices.

  • Monitor and assess the impact of emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending strategies to maintain operational excellence.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of the organization’s data architecture, including data entities and models, data sources, data pipelines, orchestrations, integrations, roadmaps, and other artifacts within the Enterprise Architecture Management tool.

What you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, data science, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in information technology, including a minimum of 5 years of experience in enterprise architecture, data architecture, or data management.

  • Extensive experience in data modelling, data structure design, and data warehousing.

  • Proven track record of implementing large-scale data solutions using industry-leading technologies and tools.

  • Experience with various data integration techniques, platforms, and tools (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Apache Nifi, Talend, Informatica, etc.).

  • Knowledge of data privacy, data security best practices, and data protection laws in BC and Canada.

  • Strong understanding of cloud-based data solutions (e.g., Microsoft Azure, etc.) and experience working with leading cloud providers.

  • In-depth knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks & tools (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman, SAFe, etc.) and data architecture methodologies.

  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, data lineage, and data cataloguing.

  • Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases, data lakes, and data warehousing solutions.

  • Knowledge of data visualization and reporting tools, such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.

  • Knowledge of data governance practices, and modern data architectures (e.g., data products, data fabric/mesh, data quality, lineage, cataloguing, etc.).

  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and managing large-scale IT projects and architectures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • TOGAF, ArchiMate, ITIL, BPMN, or other relevant certifications are a strong plus.

  • Experience working for public or non-profit agencies is an asset
