Senior Engineering Manager

Founded in 2012, we’re revolutionizing the real estate industry with our end-to-end platform that empowers residential real estate agents to deliver exceptional service to seller and buyer clients.As a Senior Engineering Manager in the Search & Listings (S&L) organization, you will lead a team at the center of a real estate technology platform that simplifies the process of finding, buying, and selling homes. S&L encompasses bringing in property and listing data from hundreds of sources nationwide, cleaning the data and making them accessible across our customer platform, and building rich experiences for agents and consumers to search, track, share, and explore the properties and listings.Your role oversees critical systems and services for ingestion data from hundreds of MLSs and other real estate data sources, which are foundational to our agent workflows and our entire data platform. Given its central position within the Compass platform and its integration with numerous core products, this role requires a seasoned manager who maintains the highest operational standards while also being skilled in facilitating essential discussions with stakeholders across various functions and organizations. You will be responsible for managing a highly talented and energetic set of developers for delivering critical roadmap features.Responsibilities:Lead, mentor, and grow an organization of talented managers and engineers.Participate in setting the organization’s goals, develop its roadmap with the organization, and represent core Listings teams interacting with senior leaders across the company.Provide guidance and support in career development, skill enhancement, and performance management for team members.Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals.Work closely with senior leadership and other stakeholders to define, execute, and report on the software development strategy in alignment with the company's overall goals.Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team efficiency and project delivery.Collaborate with other engineering leaders to champion and evangelize a technical vision for engineering at Compass.Requirements:10+ years of experience in software development and at least 7+ years of which are management experience.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.A highly technical, hands-on leader and an effective people manager with experience directly leading teams and other managers.Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining web applications, distributed backend systems or data platforms.Experience with technologies such as Python, Typescript, Java, Golang, AWS, Kafka, React.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.Proven track record of using agile principles with multiple teams and products to meet project goals and deliver high quality products.Excellent communication skills, utilized to collaborate both within Engineering and across all functions of the company to drive engineering initiatives.Excellent mentoring and review skills to help engineers make technical and career progress.Exceptional focus on customers by building products that are stable and reliable.The base pay range for this position is $167K-$252K annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
