This role will be providing support to three individuals in our "Maidstone" Group Home. The diagnoses of the individual you will be working with includes; Autism, Anxiety disorders, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, and OCD . Each individual has a personalized behavioural support plan tailored to their needs, their routines, and their preferences- these plans will inform your day-to-day routine. In this role you will be providing transportation throughout the city for appointments or activities , providing hygienic and personal care, attending medical appointments, assisting with a mobility aid, and using social strategies to help manage anxiety as needed. We are looking for someone with experience with individuals who have had behavioural challenges, and remains calm when situations become stressful. Other aspects of the role will include meal preparation, daily house chores, and medication administration. Please note that in this role you will be in a Group Home setting, as well as with individuals in the Community in environments such as public swimming pools. In supporting the individuals in this home you could experience behavioural concerns from individuals that may include aggression - verbal or physical, along with response plans for each individual, de-escalation trainings, trauma informed care practices, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention trainings are all provided as tools to use for any incidents that may arise.

The Ideal Candidate:

To succeed in this position, the ideal candidate is someone who is patient and understanding. You are able to respond calmly to stressful situations, you are comfortable advocating for the needs of the individuals you support in the community. You have a good understanding of sensory sensitivities and ideas for how to mitigate sensory concerns. You also have a positive understanding and are able to encourage individuals daily in healthy living styles, and social interactions. You take time to engage with and get to know the individuals you support, and ensure you understand their needs fully and make recommendations for improvements where you see them.

Schedule:

This part time permanent position is for16 hours/week.The schedule will be Sunday & Monday 7:00am-3:00pm. T he starting pay rate for this position will be $21.19/hour.

  • The starting rate for this position is$21.19/hour plus an additional differential of$0.25 - $0.50for evening and weekend shifts.
  • Mileage is reimbursed at $0.50/km
  • Cost shared benefits will begin after 3 months’ probation
  • This role includes 4% vacationpay plus an additional 5 flex days per year available after the first 3 months of employment
  • Trainings provided include; Positive Behaviour Supports, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol, Medication Administration, Food Safety, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Infection Prevention & Control, Water Safety Training, and others. (The only training you are required to obtain outside of work hours at your own cost is First Aid & CPR within the first 3 months of employment)
  • All regular staff are eligible to pick up additional casual hours at any of our locations outside of their scheduled hours
  • Minimum of a Diploma/Certificate in the Human Services sector or Disability Sector from a Canadian Institution (equivalencies will be considered, programs completed internationally may require a WES or IQAS assessment)
  • Must have valid class 5 drivers license, a reliable vehicle, and a minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance by time of hire
  • Intermediate in computer skills and administration skills
  • Provide medical, technological , environmental, physical, and behavioral support
  • Comfortable supporting individuals with complex behaviours, and providing personal care
  • Must be comfortable driving throughout city, and supporting individuals in a public pool setting

Preferred Requirements:

  • One to two years relevant experience in the disability sector
  • Past experience with ASD, and/or mental illness
  • Nursing background would be beneficial
  • Previous knowledge regarding sensory needs or supporting non-verbal individuals would be an asset
