Job Description Primary Purpose: Under direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor or Department Head, these positions are responsible for conducting sample preparation and analysis using the appropriate analytical methods. Principal Duties & Responsibilities: Prepare samples for analysis; Perform sample extractions according to applicable SOPs and test methods; Maintain a neat and accurate record system of work performed on a daily basis and as needed for quality control tests or regulatory purposes. Cleaning of labware and decontamination. Media preparation and storage. Maintain good laboratory housekeeping at all times; Perform regular instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration; Keep track of consumables inventory and request supplies for ordering, as required; Follow the Quality System as documented in the Quality Assurance Manual; and Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Job Specifications: University degree or college diploma in a microbiology or molecular biology-related field; Basic computer literacy – proficiency with MS Office; Clear verbal and written communication skills. Laboratory safety and WHMIS training; Troubleshooting skills required for instrument maintenance; Technical knowledge of Ph. Eur. and USP compendial methods an asset. Working Conditions: This is a laboratory environment with the majority of time spent standing and working at a lab bench. Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate PPE.
