Job Title: Senior SQL Database Administrator

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Database Administrator to join our team at Telefónica Tech. As a key member of our DBA support team, you will be responsible for delivering first-class service to our clients worldwide.

Your primary focus will be on providing ongoing delivery and support for well-recognised clients, ensuring database integrity, security, and performance. You will work closely with technical, applications, and operational colleagues to identify and resolve database-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish access needs and security requirements for users and manage them effectively.
• Identify SQL database/instance performance optimisations and implement solutions.
• Perform SQL Server patching and support customer release deployment activities and upgrades.
• Write database and client documentation, including procedures and definitions for customer environment specifics.
• Monitor customer environments via our monitoring tools and troubleshoot associated alerts.
• Ensure database maintenance procedures are functioning correctly.
• Carry out capacity planning and provisioning of SQL Server instances or databases.
• Identify cost optimisation opportunities for clients.
• Manage HA and DR aspects of SQL Server.
• Provide custom solutions to clients and identify client needs.
• Act as level 3 support for the DBA team and be available for 24x7 coverage.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience working in similar roles.
• Experience working in SQL Server Production Environments and managing critical situations.
• Experience working with SQL Server FCI & AlwaysON, troubleshooting & configuration.
• Experience and troubleshooting backups, restore, and database maintenance activities.
• Familiarity with T-SQL scripting.
• Understanding query tuning concepts and identifying performance bottlenecks.
• Understanding the SQL Server setup, storage, and best practices.
• Knowledge of the SQL Server data structures.
• Knowledge of the SQL Server architecture and database design/layout.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically.
• Willingness to learn based on feedback.
• Ability to identify opportunities and issues in SQL Server environments.
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
• Ability to help plan tasks for less experienced team members and to support and mentor.

Nice to Have:

• Experience working with Azure SQL Databases and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Knowledge of the Azure Infrastructure & Azure Backup Services.
• Basic concepts of Azure DevOps.
• Experience of other databases including but not limited to CosmosDB, Postgres, MySQL.
• Experience of SQL Server Migrations to the public cloud.
