SEN Teaching Assistant (Temp to Perm) - Start September 2024 Location: London Borough of Southwark Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM (32.5 hours per week) Salary: PAYE We are thrilled to be working with a dynamic and nurturing SEN school in the vibrant London Borough of Southwark. We are seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as SEND Teaching Assistants, where you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of students aged 11-19 with Autism/ASC, complex needs, severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and medical needs. Many of our students have limited mobility and require wheelchair assistance, so experience in supporting students with physical disabilities is highly valued. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of our students. Key Responsibilities: Provide tailored support to students with Autism/ASC, complex needs, SLD, PMLD, and medical needs, helping them achieve their academic and personal development goals. Assist students with limited mobility, including those who use wheelchairs, ensuring they can fully participate in classroom and school activities. Collaborate with teachers and staff to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment. Implement personalised curriculum and behaviour management strategies that cater to the unique needs of each student. Support students in developing their communication, social, and life skills. Assist with personal care tasks, such as feeding, toileting, and medication administration, as needed. Ideal Candidate: Experience: Ideally, you will have experience working with children and young people with Autism/ASC and complex needs, especially in educational or care settings. Skills: Knowledge of and experience in supporting students with physical disabilities and mobility issues, including those who use wheelchairs, is highly desirable. Background: Experience as a care worker or care assistant is advantageous. Relevant qualifications in Health and Social Care, Psychology, Criminology, or Nursing are a plus. Aspirations: This role is perfect for aspiring educational psychologists, therapists, or educators. Attributes: Strong communication skills, patience, empathy, and a positive attitude are essential. You should be able to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents and demonstrate a nurturing yet resilient approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
