The CBA advocates for public policies that contribute to a sound, thriving banking system to ensure Canadians can succeed in their financial goals. www.cba.ca.Job title: Director, Privacy & DataDivision: Legal & Risk DivisionLocation: TorontoReports to: Vice President, Privacy & DataOverviewThe Director, Privacy & Data will act as a subject matter expert in the leading, managing and supporting of key CBA files, including supporting the CBA’s policy development and advocacy related to public policy issues in the areas of privacy and data, the CBA efforts in cross-sector anti-scam initiatives and other industry data sharing efforts to combat financial crime, and the CBA’s internal operations involving privacy and data considerations.Description of ResponsibilitiesMonitor, analyze and assist in the development and execution of advocacy plans to effectively convey industry positions in response to legislative, regulatory and market developments on matters of privacy and data, including undertaking necessary research;Lead or support on projects involving privacy, such as responding to government consultations, enabling the industry to effectively combat evolving financial crime in a privacy-preserving way and internal CBA projects;Assist in the coordination of industry positions for consistency within Legal & Risk Division and across the CBA;Initiate, evaluate and report to colleagues and members on emerging provincial, national and international trends in privacy and data as they relate to banking in Canada and recommend strategies for the banking industry;Initiate, develop and maintain positive working relationships with member banks, government officials, regulators and representatives of other key associations, industry stakeholders and interest groups;Advise on privacy and data considerations for the CBA’s internal operations including policies and compliance controls;Assist Legal & Risk Division and other divisions where appropriate with various files and projects as assigned.Key Qualifications, Abilities and SkillsSound knowledge of the financial services industry, generally, and banks and banking in particular, with in-depth knowledge of the operational and regulatory landscape in the area of privacy and data, general policy and compliance approaches, and emerging trends and issues;Knowledge of concepts relating to financial crimes, fraud and anti-money laundering an asset;Post-secondary education and a minimum 8-10 years work experience in the privacy & data or relevant field;Proven success in building consensus across diverse stakeholders, effective interpersonal and presentation skills and experience working with senior level staff in government and industry;Exhibits leadership ability, with exceptional organizational and time management skills;Sound judgement, with a high degree of credibility;Excellent writing skills (i.e. letters, briefs, reports, etc.);Demonstrated analytical ability and critical thinking and facility for technical detail;Knowledge of the policy development and advocacy processes in government an asset;Able to accommodate occasional travel;Working knowledge of French an asset.The CBA welcomes and encourages all interested individuals to apply.
