Health and Safety Coordinator - Operations

Our Client, a leading mining company, is seeking a Operations Health and Safety Coordinator to join their team. Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, the Operations Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of the Health and Safety program within the Greenstone Gold Mine.Responsibilities:Assist with the development and review of health and safety rules, policies and procedures in accordance with site, company and government regulation and legislationVerify that the Health and Safety Management System is understood by all employees and contractors through surveillance audits and directly engaging with allFacilitate and participate in incident/accident investigations and risk assessments.Develop and promote the adoption of new safety training programs and practices while maintaining a strong base of core safety practicesAssist with firefighting, mine rescue and other emergency planning preparations and related activities.Maintain and report health and safety statisticsParticipate in daily safety interactions with employees including safety inspections and audits, identifying potentially hazardous situationsConduct inspections to ensure that health and safety requirements and governmental legislation is being followedQualifications:Have a passion for coaching and mentoring GGM employees to work safelyStrong leadership skills and ability to create a positive collaborative work environmentDemonstrate excellent verbal and written communicationsSelf-motivated, able to work independently prioritize multiple tasksHigh school diploma/General Education Diploma (GED)Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation or recognized degree in Occupational Health and Safety would be an assetMinimum 5 years experience in a health and safety role within the mining industryA combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of the positionDemonstrated experience leading groupsAdvanced knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations for mines and processing plantsProficient in Microsoft and experience with Health and Safety software program
