The Department includes a group of highly reputable scholars and a vibrant graduate studies program with approximately 60 graduate students. Department members are engaged in several undergraduate programs in the Faculty including a BA in environmental studies and BSc in environmental and conservation science.The successful candidate will contribute to these undergraduate and graduate programs and build new areas of expertise both individually and as part of collaborative teams composed of people within and outside academia.The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Environmental Sociology. The successful candidate will have strong theoretical foundations in sociology with a research program that is focused on topics in environmental, agricultural, or natural resource sociology. We will consider applications from candidates working in any subject area within these fields, but are particularly interested in receiving applications from individuals who are skilled methodologists (the ability to teach quantitative methods would be an asset), conduct research focused on consumption and consumerism, and/or have an international focus.A research program with links to sustainable development goals, Indigenous communities, and collaboration on interdisciplinary teams are also valued assets of a successful applicant. We also seek candidates who will support and advance university commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusivity.Minimum Qualifications:Candidates must hold a PhD in sociology, environmental sociology, or a closely related field. We also welcome applicants with non-traditional pathways to an academic career in Canada. Candidates must have already completed their PhD, or expect to receive their PhD by July 1, 2025. Experience working with topics in environmental, agricultural, or natural resource sociology is required. An ability to teach quantitative methods and experience with a research program with links to sustainable development goals and Indigenous communities is an asset.The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong research program with external funding, engage in interdisciplinary research collaborations, and train and supervise graduate students. The position involves teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level.
