The Role We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of English to lead the English department at a well-regarded secondary school in Urmston. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and dedicated professional who is passionate about driving academic success and inspiring a love for English literature and language across the school. The role is to start ASAP. We expect the role to go permanent after 12 weeks of supply. Key Responsibilities Leadership and Management: Provide effective leadership for the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning are maintained. Curriculum Development: Oversee the development and implementation of an engaging and innovative English curriculum that meets the needs of all learners. Staff Development: Lead and support the professional development of the English department staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. Student Achievement: Set high expectations and monitor progress to ensure students achieve excellent outcomes at all key stages. Teaching Excellence: Teach English to a high standard, providing an inspiring learning environment that encourages students to reach their full potential. Resource Management: Manage departmental resources efficiently and ensure the effective delivery of the English curriculum. Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and other heads of department to contribute to the overall strategic direction of the school. Assessment & Reporting: Ensure the accurate assessment, tracking, and reporting of student progress in line with school policies. Requirements Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential. Educational Background: A degree in English or a closely related subject. Leadership Experience: Proven experience in a leadership role within an English department, ideally as Head of English or Second in Department. Teaching Expertise: A track record of delivering outstanding English lessons and achieving excellent student outcomes. Communication & Leadership Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire both staff and students. Passion for English: A deep passion for English language and literature, and a commitment to fostering a love for the subject among students.
