Role Profile: IT Systems Engineer

Overall Purpose:

Join our client's dynamic team as an IT Systems Engineer! This is a group role, covering three sites, and based at our client's premises in Bristol. There will be some travel to other sites, so we will require a full, clean driving licence for this post.

You'll play a pivotal role in diagnosing network issues, collecting IT usage statistics, and recommending enhancements to IT systems.

Your responsibilities will include routine configuration, installation of IT solutions, and the seamless onboarding and offboarding of employees. Additionally, you'll support and develop the EMiR MRP system, create insightful reports with Power BI, and manage the mobile phone network. As their "internet police," you'll ensure compliance with company policies regarding internet and email use.

Working hours are Monday - Friday 37.5 hours per week, with a 13.30 finish on a Friday!

Salary: £45k-£55k (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Network & Cloud Maintenance: Monitor and maintain networks and cloud servers.
  • Hardware & Software Upgrades: Upgrade, install, and configure new hardware and software to meet company goals.
  • Security Protocols: Implement security measures to protect against potential threats.
  • User Management: Create user accounts and perform access control.
  • System Optimisation: Conduct diagnostic tests and debugging procedures to optimise systems.
  • Infrastructure Management: Oversee IT infrastructure, operating systems, and networks.
  • Installation & Configuration: Install and configure hardware and software.
  • Task Coordination: Plan, organise, and control support tasks to ensure integration and completion.
  • System Availability: Proactively ensure the highest levels of system and infrastructure availability.
  • Application Performance: Monitor and test application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement fixes.
  • Security & Backup: Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Product Upgrades: Review product upgrades for compliance with engineering and security principles, liaise with vendors and IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Incident Management: Progress all incidents to resolution within agreed timescales.
  • Maintenance Support: Provide maintenance support in line with business and system processes.
  • Data Reporting: Develop Power BI reports and collaborate with EMiR to provide accurate data for reporting.

Person Specification - Qualifications and/or Experience Required:

Person Specification - Skills & Knowledge Required:

Educational Background:
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields 
  • Technical Experience: Proven experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft Server, Workstation, and Office environments.
  • Cloud Expertise: Experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • IT Standards Knowledge: Understanding of IT architecture standards and commercial best practices.
  • Broad IT Knowledge: Familiarity with network administration, database management, IT infrastructure, and telephony.
  • Security & Operations: Expertise in IT security, operations, and sustainment.
  • Certifications: Microsoft Certifications are a plus.
