To Apply for this Job Click Here Aplin is partnering with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) on the search for a strategic and people-centered Vice President, Operations. Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President, Operations is a key member of the executive leadership team who will support IISD’s global impact, drive the vision, and operationalize the strategic plan. The role oversees operational areas of IISD including Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Communications, and Philanthropy and is responsible for leading an integrated approach to effective and efficient administrative operations across IISD. This position will be based out of the IISD headquarters in Winnipeg. The successful candidate must reside (or be willing to relocate) to Winnipeg. Key Responsibilities: Provide overall global leadership to IISD operations for human resources, finance, information technology, corporate communications, philanthropy, and project management to ensure IISD can achieve its short- and long-term goals. Lead the analysis, design, and implementation of business processes and technology strategies to support the timely, accurate, and efficient global delivery of operations. Ensure a cost-effective, consistent approach to global key business processes including hiring practices, brand communication, and fundraising. Provide support to IISD’s Board through policy and procedure implementation and lead IISD’s risk management framework. Work with the CFO and finance team to ensure that financial risks are well-evaluated and monitored and that audit recommendations are implemented and oversee the annual budget process. Ensure the implementation of a human resources strategy and programs to ensure IISD retains, recruits, manages, and develops its talent in collaboration with the Director, Talent and Culture. Support IISD’s strategic communications to strengthen the impact of its mission and ensure brand alignment across all programs and services. Oversee, through the Director of IT, the strategic management of IT infrastructure and systems to support organizational goals. Ensure that the philanthropic plan is aligned with the strategic plan of the organization. Oversee the strategic planning and management of facilities to ensure efficient use of space and resource for a hybrid/remote work environment. Ideal Background: Education and Experience: A post-secondary degree in a field relevant to the role and substantial experience in managing operations and staff within a complex business setting. Experience or exposure to the not-for-profit sector is a strong asset, as is international experience. Experience in a project-based entity, such as a consulting firm, is highly desirable. People Leadership: Highly developed people leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring, coaching, and operational excellence. Demonstrates inclusive leadership and a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Portfolio Management: Demonstrated experience in overseeing diverse functional areas such as Human Resources, Finance, and IT. Strong business acumen with a proven track record of managing professional teams. Experience in building and scaling teams and systems. Project Management and Technology: Significant experience in project management, enterprise technology solutions, and continuous improvement methods. Exceptional understanding of business process management practices to optimize business strategy and processes. Risk Management: Sound understanding of risk management including experience in implementing risk mitigation plans. Strategic Planning: Demonstrated experience developing strategic plans and setting, monitoring, and meeting plan goals. Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills. Finance and Budgeting: Experience overseeing finance, accounting, and budgeting functions. Extensive experience with budget development and contract management. Change Leadership: Proven ability to drive organizational change and process transformation effectively, demonstrating passion, creativity, authenticity, and resilience as a leader. Experience in enterprise-wide change management initiatives and a solid understanding of change management theories and practices. Communications and Brand Alignment: Proven ability to drive strategic communications and ensure brand alignment. Fundraising and Philanthropy: Experience in fundraising and philanthropy is an asset.
