We recognize the land and waters that have inspired our work and offer gratitude to those Indigenous peoples on whose territory we work, live and play. #LI-HYBRID #LI-SW1 #LI-Ontario  About the role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a regular full-time Employee Relations Associate to join our dynamic Employee Relations team in our People, Culture and Performance division.  The Employee Relations team supports Canadian Blood Services' strategic goals by helping clients navigate a complex and regulated environment. They integrate operational expertise with compassion to ensure excellence and foster a positive and empowering employee experience. Reporting to the Associate Director, Employee Relations, you will oversee the initiation of intake activities for grievances, investigations, mediation, and discipline. You will assist in coordinating larger corporate initiatives and projects, managing databases, tracking systems, and financial tools. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining grievance and investigation files, organizing records, and ensuring timely communication of key milestones. Additionally, you will conduct high-quality research and policy analysis on labour and employee relations issues, preparing reports and recommendations. You will provide support for divisional projects, maintaining project plans and databases. Your role ensures adherence to health and safety policies and provides effective support to internal and external stakeholders. Formula for success Leveraging your skills in employee relations, you will participate in and support the effective daily operations of the Employee Relations team. Applying your skills in policy analysis and research, you will provide high-quality research and policy analysis on a range of labour relations issues and trends, from identification and evaluation of options to development of recommendations for consideration. Utilizing your skills in database management and analysis, you will maintain the employee and labour relations database, including responsibility for intake, data collection, and analysis in support of departmental requirements. Employing your skills in collective bargaining support, you will assist with the collective bargaining process, including researching and preparing proposals, participating in planning meetings, and providing support for the negotiation of collective agreements. Harnessing your skills in policy development and maintenance, you will assist with the development, revision, and maintenance of employment-related policies, procedures, guidelines, and terms and conditions of employment. Implementing your skills in project management and process improvement, you will provide project management and process improvement/enhancement support across the Employee Relations team. Desired education and skills Post-Secondary education in Human Resource Management or Industrial/Labour Relations from a recognized institution, with at least 5 years of overall HR experience, including 3 years specifically in labour relations within healthcare or unionized settings. Proficiency in web-based technologies and experience with project management software like Microsoft Project, enhancing efficiency in managing labour relations and HR initiatives. Deep understanding of current labour relations trends and practices, enabling comprehensive research, analysis, and reporting on complex employment issues. Strong organizational, administrative, analytical, and problem-solving skills essential for coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring effective task completion. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, delivering impactful results while maintaining strong written and oral communication skills in English. Familiarity with HR Information Systems such as SAP, facilitating streamlined data management and enhancing external organizational relationships as necessary. If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa – 1800 Alta Vista Dr, Ottawa, quarterly for in-person team meetings when required.
