Position: Software Development Manager

Location: Hybrid-Remote, Toronto office presence required 3 days a week.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000 per year

Our client is a leading provider of cloud-based media asset management tools for the film and television industry. They offer a range of software solutions tailored for studios, producers, and distributors to streamline content workflows. Their flagship platform enables seamless storage, conversion, and delivery of high-quality content directly from a web browser. Pioneers in anti-piracy technology, they developed the world's first "active" watermarking system, detecting and reporting piracy attempts in real-time.

As a Software Development Manager, you will be at the helm of a team of 6-8 developers, spearheading project execution and ensuring the seamless delivery of cutting-edge software solutions.

Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Managing and mentoring a team of developers, fostering engagement, and facilitating continuous progress on tasks.
  • Overseeing feature development, conducting quality assurance checks, and ensuring timely product releases.
  • Assuming a hybrid role encompassing aspects of product management, including owning products, interfacing with clients for feature requests, and addressing customer support issues.
  • Establishing and enforcing development processes, coding standards, and best practices to optimize team efficiency and product quality.
  • Collaborating closely with the VP Engineering and CEO to align development efforts with company goals and product roadmaps.
  • Conducting career development discussions with team members, providing guidance, and facilitating growth opportunities.
  • Performing code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, and unblocking development obstacles as needed.
  • Systematizing and formalizing development processes, including implementing a structured test and release process.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role managing development teams.
  • Proven track record of implementing development processes and best practices within a team environment.
  • Highly organized and process-oriented, with the ability to manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong software development background with proficiency in JavaScript; experience with React, PHP, or Laravel is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance managerial responsibilities with hands-on coding contributions.
  • Experience in setting up and optimizing development processes, including version control, testing frameworks, and deployment pipelines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
  • Passion for innovation and a keen interest in the film and television industry is desirable.

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the VP Engineering and collaborates closely with the CEO, who oversees product management.
