The Sport, Recreation and Community Programs Branch is looking for an individual who is passionate about promoting active lifestyles and participation in sport, recreation and physical activity in order to provide consultative services and advice to support the ministry’s sport and recreation programs.

There are three positions available: One (1) – Bilingual (English/French) Sport and Recreation Consultant Two (2) – Unilingual (English) Sport and Recreation Consultants

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic and specialized consultative services and advice to clients on sport and recreation development, Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD)/high performance sport development, coalition building, partnership development, organizational development, training and education;
  • Provide assistance and information to clients on ministry business priorities, expected outcomes, funding opportunities and programs, including guidelines, applications, funding and evaluation processes;
  • Collect and analyze information, prepare materials, including proposals for sport and recreation programs and initiatives, options analysis, financial implications, briefing materials, and strategic communication advice and products;
  • Participate in program and policy planning, provide input to policy development, and analyze program delivery and impact;
  • Establish and maintain networks in the sport, recreation and physical activity sectors;
  • Lead or participate as a team member on special projects and initiatives;
  • Participate in program and policy planning and development.

Sports and Recreation Sector Knowledge

  • You have knowledge of the sport, recreation and physical activity sectors
  • You can interpret and apply sport and recreation policies, legislation, procedures and funding programs and approval processes to provide advice and subject matter expertise to clients
  • You understand sport and recreation delivery and policy linkages at the federal, provincial and interprovincial levels; the sport and recreation sectors.
  • You have knowledge of sport delivery and best practices (e.g., program development, coaching and coach development, officials training and development, long term athlete development models and programs, participation development models, sport development continuum).

Technical Knowledge

  • You have knowledge of program design, implementation and delivery
  • You know funding design principals, methodologies and practices to ensure program funding alignment with provincial sport plan objectives and sport recognition policy
  • You have knowledge of organizational development and change theory, principles, framework models and change strategies

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills

  • You have analytical skills to review, identify and analyze issues, and evaluate funding applications for multiyear funding agreements, provide ongoing oversight and reporting of program evaluation in alignment with funding logic models and program review and renewal and transformation benchmarks.
  • You have problem solving skills to identify problems and conflicts and resolve issues.

Communication, Consultation and Partnership-Building Skills

  • You have oral and written communication, consultation, advisory and presentation skills to provide advice and guidance to provincial-level sport and recreation client groups, develop and manage business relationships with a wide variety of client groups and to prepare briefing/issue notes and senior level correspondence.
  • You demonstrate tact, judgment and diplomacy when dealing with clients and the public
  • You can work collaboratively with stakeholders to build effective relationships.

Project Management, Organizational and Computer Skills

  • You have project planning and management skills to lead complex projects and teams and work with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • You have demonstrated organizational skills to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
  • You have experience using computer software such as word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database applications to manage data, conduct research and analysis, and prepare a variety of documents and reports
