The Opportunity:

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineering Designerto join our Edmonton branch with a focus on supportingTransportation & Bridge Infrastructure Engineering projectswhile also supporting ourMunicipal and Energy / Resourcesteams. We are seekingstrong communicators with excellent design skillsandexperience in AutoCAD Civil 3Dand associated design packages. Our transportation projects include variousrural and urban road improvement projects, streetscapes, roundabouts, municipal underground reconstruction, bridge-sized culvert replacements, and bridge rehabilitations.The successful candidate will use their strong technical skills on a variety of design projects.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Contribute to the cost effective and timely production of engineering designs, including roadways, drainage, and utilities that meet all client and approval agency requirements and standards.
  • Transform road, municipal, bridges and culvert preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans, and project informational requirements, using primarily AutoCAD / Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
  • Coordinate and/or complete the preparation of documents required for approvals and assist with development of construction cost estimates, quantities, tender documents and contracts.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
  • Identify field and design issues and facilitate corrective measures, think independently.
  • Proficiency in drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D Software. Experience with Infraworks and/or other CAD/Mapping/GIS software is an asset.
  • Highly proficient in the application of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project)
  • Knowledge of Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors Engineering drafting guidelines for highway and bridge projects, City of Calgary standards and/or other municipal standards.
  • Currently registered, or qualified to register as a Technician / Technologist with ASET or registered or qualified to register as an Engineer with APEGA
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong people skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a busy and high-performing team.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 per annum , depending on education and years of experience. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
