Medical Laboratory Technologist - Limited Term Tracking Code: req1312Faculty/Department: Faculty of Health SciencesNumber of Positions: 1Appointment Type: Limited TermHours of Work: 35 hours per weekSalary Range: Level 9 - Annual Hiring Salary, $79,033, with annual step progression in accordance with the Salary Grid.Posting Date: September 23, 2024Closing Date: October 8, 2024 or until a suitable candidate has been foundJob Summary: The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for the setup and takedown of labs, maintaining inventory of supplies, and ensuring equipment is in good working order (i.e., instrument maintenance, performing quality control, and updating laboratory SOPs) for student learning. The Medical Laboratory Technologist facilitates in the role of a Registered MLT in Year I, II, and III lab classes.Nature of Work: The Faculty of Health Sciences at Ontario Tech University invites applications for a year limited term Academic Associate position in the area of Med Lab to commence in our Health Sciences Faculty. This position reports to Faculty Dean, Carol Rodgers, and is subject to budgetary approval.Responsibilities/Accountabilities:Ensures all equipment is in good working condition, set up and ready for use for learning sessions.Takes down, cleans, and stores equipment.Organizes annual maintenance and repairs of all equipment within the lab as needed.Ensures the proper clearing, maintenance, and storage of all lab material, equipment, and supplies following each student lab session.Facilitates in Year I, II, and III lab classes, including evaluation of students' skill-based performances.Facilitates simulation/laboratory-based education as needed including assisting the laboratory instructors.Manages inventory, researches, orders, and completes purchases of supplies and equipment for lab activities.Processes all shared expenses between Durham College and Ontario Tech.Collaborates with the medical laboratory technicians to help determine requirements of shared purchases.Collaborates internally within FHSc labs to coordinate orders.Provides financial reports and forecasts spending to PBO for purchases of new equipment, maintenance, repairs, and supplies for lab usage.Keeps up with current issues that impact the position, student learning, and safety (i.e., Health and Safety Committee).Collaborates with faculty on content and delivery of labs including case development and required lab elements.Required Skills:Excellent organizational skills.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Effective interpersonal skills, discretion, tact, and diplomacy.Setting up labs and switching over to the next lab. Equipment for 20+ students is taken off carts daily and put on the benches for labs to run.Working Environment:Biohazard sample handling.Occasional traveling to Lakeridge if laboratory technician is unavailable.Required Education:Completion of an accredited MLS degree or diploma program. Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario as a General MLT is required.* Verification of Academic credentials may be required.Required Experience:Minimum 3 to 5 years experience as a Registered Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist/Scientist.How to Apply:Interested candidates should submit in electronic format a covering letter and their resume.
