Our client is a Toronto-based leading international financial services company.They have engaged ROSS (www.getROSS.com) to help them recruit a Senior Oracle Infrastructure Database Administrator.ROSS is a team of People Specialists helping companies align their People Strategy with their business growth.We provide contingency recruitment in addition to remote or onsite HR and Recruitment solutions such as Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) and Recruitment Augmentation.

Location: Montreal, Toronto or Waterloo

This role is for a Senior Oracle Infrastructure Database Administrator supporting Canadian and US requirements.

You will be a member of a team within Data Management Services (DMS) called Distributed Database Technologies. This team is responsible for establishing best practices and architecture planning on new Oracle releases, new Oracle features and renewal delivery. We ensure that Oracle database technologies, and associated software, stays current in terms of CPU patching, hardware renewal and infrastructure upgrades.

The role includes on-call support and off-hour implementation requirements.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Define and implement Oracle database architecture best practices;
  • Work with Database Administrators and Developers to defining requirements;
  • Create or maintain clear and concise documentation for all supported database related platforms;
  • Infrastructure support of Oracle including: server/instance installs (stand-alone and clustered), service-pack upgrades, hot fixes, client tool installs, readiness programs, new feature exploitation, research and development (as needed by Infrastructure manager);
  • Support Oracle database and other database related product upgrades;
  • Performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of issues
  • Support project development following documented standards, policies and procedures (Change Management Process);
  • Regular review of database maintenance and performance improvement procedures;
  • Ensuring the proper setup and validation of backup and restore processes
  • Participation in a rotational on-call schedule;
  • Occasional participation in after-hours and weekend support of production implementations, infrastructure activities, and various disaster recovery exercises;
  • Working closely with other team members, technical/team leads, management, specialized IT areas and application support teams to ensure consistent delivery and quality of database services;
  • Define, document and implement consistent standards and procedures;
  • Managing small to medium size infrastructure projects and participating in projects through the entire project lifecycle;
  • Database stability, availability and recoverablility;
  • Evaluation of functionality and features within Oracle and related database support products;
  • Contribute ideas for best practice improvements, process improvement, and innovative solutions;
  • Organizing and monitoring personal workload and escalating to manager when issues arise;
  • Administrative intake process support.

Qualifications:

  • Understand, can describe and can put into action, database concepts;
  • University level degree in Computer Science or related information technology degree/diploma;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Passion for database administration;
  • Willingness to provide on-call support and trouble shooting;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle several tasks efficiently;
  • Ability to contribute solutions that meet or exceed business requirements;
  • Willingness to share ideas and speak up in groups.

Assets:

  • Oracle 10g or 11g certification;
  • PLSQL skills that include an understanding of system tables, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and SQL tuning;
  • Experience with Oracle installations and patching;
  • Oracle database tuning using native Oracle or other third-party tools;
  • Unix scripting;
  • Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager or GRID Control;
  • Knowledge of RMAN backup and recovery strategies;
  • Knowledge of Oracle replication, mirroring, log shipping, maintenance plans and DR recovery strategies;
  • Experience with Sybase Power Designer and Embarcadero DBArtisan;
  • Experience with Veritas clustering software;
  • Some knowledge of data-mapping and logical and physical data modeling;
  • Experience with Oracle running on various operating systems;
  • Knowledge or experience with SQL Server.
