Organizational Description: Forging Ahead Inc. is a registered not-for-profit charity that helps veterans and first responders dealing with PTSD through artistic blacksmithing. Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer Opportunity ID: 5419 Description of Duties: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for Forging Ahead Inc. Oversee organizational operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning. Lead the board in governance responsibilities, ensuring compliance with Canadian charity regulations. Develop and implement long-term strategic plans to guide the charity's growth and impact. Foster a collaborative and inclusive board environment, encouraging diverse viewpoints and ideas. Represent the charity to stakeholders, partners, and the public, enhancing the organization's profile and reputation. Work closely with the Treasurer and financial team to ensure the charity's financial health and sustainability. Engage in fundraising efforts and secure funding from various sources. Facilitate formal and informal meetings to discuss and explain the current status of operations, plans, and structure. Ensure a smooth and friendly integration process for new board members and volunteers. Work with veterans and first responders, providing support and understanding of their needs related to PTSD and OSI symptoms. Skills Required: Proven leadership experience, preferably within non-profit or charitable organizations. Strong strategic vision and the ability to develop and implement long-term plans. Knowledge of Canadian charity regulations and governance practices. Excellent organizational management skills, with the ability to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Financial oversight experience, including budgeting and financial management. Experience in managing and guiding a volunteer board. Fundraising and development experience, with a track record of securing funding. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including donors, partners, and the community. Demonstrated commitment to ethical standards and transparency. Strong problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking skills. Experience working with veterans and first responders, particularly those with PTSD and OSI symptoms. Training in mental health and mindfulness practices. Willingness to dedicate significant time and effort to the role. Skills Gained/Related Careers: Leadership and strategic planning skills applicable to senior management roles. Governance and compliance expertise relevant to board and executive positions. Enhanced financial management skills for non-profit and charitable sectors. Experience in fundraising and development, valuable for roles in development and philanthropy. Advanced communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of veterans and first responders. Time Commitment: Daytime, Evening, Weekend, Remote Volunteering, Flexible Hours. We hold meetings once a month, usually in the evenings on weekends. All other planned events will be scheduled in advance. We expect the applicant to be able to dedicate a significant amount of time to the charity, including organizational and administrative support.
