Join our passionate Aquatics team and help us to achieve great things in our community!Reporting to the Program Manager, the Aquatics & Family Programs Director assumes responsibility for the daily operation of the pool including giving leadership to program excellence, assisting in ensuring that the building and staff adhere to health and safety protocols, and that the Aquatics Staff Team are meeting YMCA of Greater Toronto regulations, National YMCA standards, Provincial (health regulation) Standards and SAM expectations with the goal of achieving 100% compliance. The Director of Aquatic & Family programs also oversees and gives leadership to Children and Youth programs ensuring quality and variety of choices for families.In this role, you will:Develop, promote, plan, and implement all aquatics programs offered by the HFR facility.Develop and monitor departmental budget and maintain accountability, responsibility, and control for the departmental fiscal goals; purchase equipment (safety, swim lessons, aquafit), uniforms, first aid supplies, and aquatic lessons supplies.Supervise Aquatics staff including recruitment and selection, scheduling work, acknowledging contributions; performance management including discipline; provide guidance to volunteers.Conduct internal audits and ensure staff team and department are in compliance with regards to Qualifications (duty officers, lifeguards, and Aquatic Specialist), Trainings, Safety and Emergency Procedures, Operational Procedures, Lifeguard Stations and Rotations, Uniforms and Equipment, Administration, SAM - "YMCA Priority: S.A.M. Self-Appraisal Checklist, Quality of Service in Member Contact Area" for pool, Role modeling - SAM excellence, Mission, Vision, Core Values.Ensure that department staff are provided with appropriate orientation and training; that they are kept informed through regular communication, meetings, etc. and that they are equipped for their roles.Ensure the safety of all members, property, and staff by following established Workplace Health and Safety practices and procedures; ensure monthly safety and audit checks of pool; conduct WHMIS training.Provide support and/or teach various Leadership Courses including Standard First Aid, CPR, AED, NLS; YMCA Swim Instructors x-over course; YMCA Basic Theory; YMCA Aquafit Applied Theory; Teach and/or provide support to the instructors who teach Bronze Star, Junior Lifeguard Club, Senior Lifeguard Club, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and RRS programs, etc.Provide direct program delivery including teaching swim lessons, life guarding, leading aquafit classes. Act as the Pool Operator as outlined in the Ontario Health Regulations 565. Support the staff team in the role of Duty Officer (or Acting General Manager).Provide leadership to children and youth programs; supervise and direct staff in this area to achieve YMCA’s goals in creating a safe, active, and fun environment for participants.Model appropriate behaviors to staff in line with our Mission, Vision, and Values; establish rapport and maintain effective relationship-building behaviors with staff and members. Represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.Provide leadership regarding the center's philanthropic initiatives; understand and integrate the value of philanthropy and volunteerism and impart this knowledge and belief upon staff, volunteers, and members.Perform other duties as assigned by the Programs Manager to fulfill our commitment of quality service to members.You bring:Diploma or Degree in Recreation Leadership, Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field preferred.Minimum of five years experience in life guarding, teaching swim lessons, teaching aquafit classes.Demonstrated strong leadership skills developed through progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role in aquatics; ability to encourage, motivate staff and volunteers, acknowledge and appreciate contributions.NLS, Standard First Aid (CPR-C), NLS instructor/examiners, LSS Standard First Aid instructors/examiners, LSS Instructors, YMCA Swim Instructors, LSS AED responder (or provider), LSS AED examiner, and/or YMCA Aquafit Leader certification preferred.WHMIS training and Pool Operator’s certification preferred.Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members of all ages, staff, and colleagues; excellent written communication skills.Ability to speak multiple languages an asset.Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills; computer skills; willingness to learn new computer programs.Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including evenings and weekends.Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity.Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion, and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design.Focus on the health, safety, and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.YMCA Competencies: Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Orientated, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter.Why work for the YMCA?The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity that ignites the potential in people, helping them grow, lead, and give back to their communities.
