Senior Accountant

Job Description

Our client, a diverse, established and continually growing company in the fuel industry is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team in St. Johns, Newfoundland. This is a permanent opportunity within a strong team environment, ideal for an innovative and positive professional with personal drive. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for preparing financial reports for management and ensuring corporate compliance with all federal and provincial requirements.

Key Responsibilities for the Job:

• Monthly and quarterly financial statement reporting
• Gross margin, operating, and cash flow reporting
• Investigate variances and discrepancies, reporting as needed
• Support in the audit function conducted by third parties
• Ensure journal entries accuracy and timely posting
• Review account reconciliations
• Support junior staff
• Contribute to the development and improvement of departmental processes
• Ad-hoc reports for management as needed

Experience & Attributes for Success:

• Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business management, or a related field
• CPA designation, or a related designation through a recognized governing body is required
• Minimum 5 years experience in a similar, versatile accounting role
• Proficient with accounting software and comfortable learning new programs
• Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
• Driven and proactive work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines and management a changing workload
• Self-motivated with the ability to work on your own and within a team
