Position: Executive Director/Community Leader

Salary: $84,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience

Duration: Permanent full-time

Responsible To: L’Arche Ontario Regional Leader & Board of L’Arche Ottawa

L’Arche Ottawa is seeking an experienced leader, passionate about inclusion and the core values of L’Arche, to lead our vibrant, relationship-based bilingual community. The Executive Director/Community Leader (ED/CL) will balance managing the business side of our non-profit while leading a mission-driven community.

About L’Arche Ottawa:

We are a well-established bilingual community currently operating five homes for people with intellectual disabilities and a day program. L’Arche Ottawa consists of approximately 60 full and part-time personnel, along with many long-term volunteers and community friends.

Our current interim Executive Director/Community Leader developed a comprehensive strategic planning and priority-setting initiative for L’Arche Ottawa. This initiative, created with internal and external involvement, aims to expand the benefits of L’Arche to more individuals with intellectual disabilities. Our next leader must be results-focused to implement these new priorities. This includes to continue to foster a supportive environment that positions L’Arche Ottawa as an Employer of Choice, a key goal of our strategic plan.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Board, Ontario Region, and Community and guided by the Charter of L’Arche Communities: deliver the priority initiatives developed in our strategic plan
  • Support the bilingual character of the organization and of its services, as well as the equality of rights and services for both English and French linguistic groups
  • Ensure adequate structures, systems, and resources are in place to meet the needs of the community
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, fundraising, and reporting
  • Collaborate with like organizations to better serve Ottawans with intellectual disabilities
  • Manage risk and compliance with government regulations, legislation, and policies
  • Ensure quality training for employees and volunteers, and growth-oriented formation in the values of L’Arche
  • Ensure celebrations, traditions, spiritual practices, and gatherings are inclusive and meaningful
  • Represent L’Arche and foster positive relationships with funders, donors, agencies, families, and other community partners
  • Report to the Board and act as a liaison between the Board and different levels of the L’Arche Federation
  • Support regional, national, and international initiatives of L’Arche

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Excellent communication skills in English and/or French, bilingualism preferred
  • Senior leadership experience in the non-profit sector is vital. Direct experience of L’Arche is an asset
  • A post-secondary degree or certificate in a related field is required
  • Experience managing a complex budget and analyzing financial statements
  • Experience working with Strategic Plans, Government Initiatives and Funding Models, preferably within the Developmental Services Sector
  • Understands the management of organizational change
  • Demonstrated success in leading a senior leadership team, working collaboratively, addressing tension, being an active listener, and seeking counsel when necessary
  • Ability to delegate effectively, apply good judgement in decision-making, and give clear direction in times of crisis
  • Open to learn and grow; able to give and receive constructive feedback with humility; commitment to personal growth, self-care, and humour
  • Expertise in effective social media communication is an asset
  • Clear police check, including vulnerable sector screening
