Your Opportunity Stantec’s Power System Studies Center of Excellence is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to be a Technical Lead in Electromagnetic Transient Power System Studies (EMT). The Technical Lead will oversee a team of engineers in the execution of EMT studies for various power systems including generation, transmission, and distribution levels, emphasizing simulation and analysis of HVDC and inverter-based resource (IBR) systems. Responsibilities include managing a technical team, leading business development, client relations, and technical proposal preparation. Your Key Responsibilities Projects for Clients Provide direct project leadership on EMT power system studies projects, including developing methodologies, preparing models, analyzing results, and preparing study reports. Meet with clients to report on project progress and study results. Provide technical support in AC and DC transmission system design and operation. Ensure high-quality project deliverables are prepared on time and within budget. Assign resources to projects to ensure timely delivery of results. Business Development/Client Relations Participate in marketing and business development activities related to power system studies. Prepare proposals including methodology, staffing, and cost estimates. Manage client relations regarding business development and work assignments. Conduct research and development on new technologies and innovative study techniques. Grow a network of industry connections within the power system community. Participate in IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, or other international organizations. Write papers and present at technical conferences. Leadership/Management Provide technical advice and mentorship to team members. Identify training requirements and opportunities. Stay updated on the latest simulation tools and techniques used in the industry. Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials Expertise in power system studies with emphasis on EMT analysis and strong background in static and dynamic modeling of HVDC converters and other power electronic devices. Expert user of PSCAD and other EMT software applications. Strong background in power system analysis software including PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, CYME, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory. Experience interacting with clients. Ability to deliver projects on time while maintaining high quality. Self-motivated collaborator and independent researcher. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Ability to anticipate problems and provide creative solutions. International experience in power system planning studies is an asset. Expert understanding of North American power systems and associated standards. Experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Willingness to travel as required. Education and Experience MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering preferred. Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng and/or PE) required. Minimum of 15 years of experience as an electrical engineer, focusing on EMT studies.
