DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director, Institutional Research and Planning, and under the general direction of Associate Vice President, Innovation and Research Services, this multidisciplinary position with considerable complexity is accountable for analysis and production of both standard and customized reports that will be used to inform planning and decision-making by the academic leadership and senior management of the college. The incumbent in this position provides extensive analysis and reporting services on a wide range of college activities at the institutional level, in a fast-paced, highly computerized and challenging environment. The incumbent will be accountable for providing a wide range of services including: developing research methodologies and instruments, internal and external data collection, analysis and management; professional report and data visualization development and delivery; environmental scanning and labour market report production; co-ordination of college-wide surveys; relevant software decisions and support; and ongoing supervision of the program information packages to support for academic quality assurance processes such as, comprehensive program review and annual program reviews.
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of comprehensive program review and renewal, program review roster and related documentation. Collaborate with Centre of Teaching and Learning on the implementation of the program review process with specific responsibilities for development and presentation of program information packages, critical analysis, discussions of documented evidence, and guidance for development of recommendations.
  • Apply and use the knowledge of latest research and economic trends. Conduct comprehensive business intelligence review, including labour market assessments, and develop well-documented, environmental scans to identify and support the opportunities for degree and non-degree academic programming at Durham College.
  • Build and integrate a knowledge base of internal and external information sources and utilize best practices for institutional research and planning deliverable. Support the development of various performance indicators and data visualization dashboards/reports for use of the academic and service areas and senior management team. Make presentations to academic leadership teams, and other internal groups as required.
  • Utilize accepted survey research design methodology and available survey software to design, deploy, test, administer and monitor surveys. Produce professional quality, well-written publications for internal and external distribution to various stakeholders for planning and decision making.
  • Design and execute comprehensive research plans that include appropriate methodologies for gathering and analyzing primary and secondary data, provide analysis and interpretation of the results, and produce insightful reports and data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders. Lead and participate in externally funded research opportunities to further enhance college research capacity and reputation.
  • Provide staff leadership and management for overall performance and job satisfaction of the reporting analyst in the Institutional Research and Planning team. Ensure that staff assignments within the department are carried out in a manner that is consistent with college policies and procedures. Manage within the provisions of the collective agreement and apply provisions appropriately.
  • Serve on various strategic Durham College committees and support Director, Institutional Research and Planning to represent Durham College on provincial/departmental committees as required to enhance the reputation of the college and our work. Support to external research funding opportunities and corresponding projects/report submissions.
QUALIFICATIONS: * A minimum of a Masters Degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in research design and methodology, survey design, and statistical analysis using statistical software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.
  • Experience using SPSS, MS Access, MS Excel,
  • Experience with Banner system, Cognos Impromptu reporting tool is an asset
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau and survey software such as Blue eXplorance, Apian/Remark.
  • Knowledge of legal issues relating to privacy, ethics, and intellectual property concerns.
  • Experience working with senior management clients; ability to communicate.
  • Detailed knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices, and modelling
  • Knowledge of college operations and academic systems. Detailed knowledge of college transaction data systems and related reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of Durham College programs, Key Performance Indicators (KPI) guidelines and procedures, and provincial privacy legislation.
  • Expert knowledge of labour market issues and data sources; comprehensive awareness of provincial, national and global economic outlooks and ability to assess the impact on the local region and corresponding labour market employment needs.
  • Effective human resource practices and team management
