Location: Head office (5200 Orbitor Drive, Mississauga) / Hybrid

Purpose

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications & Community Investment, the Community Investment Manager will oversee and execute the day-to-day activities of the Gay Lea Foundation, as well as lead the implementation of a new community investment strategy for Gay Lea Foods, focusing on the establishment of strong charitable governance and processes for the management and operation of the Gay Lea Foundation, which will disburse, on average, $1 million in charitable grants per year through national charitable partnerships, and domestic and international community grant programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Execution: Lead the implementation of the new Gay Lea Foundation strategy, which is designed to Nourish Communities by providing support for projects that address domestic food insecurity and/or build community capabilities, domestically or abroad.
  • Governance and Process: Working with the Gay Lea Foundation board of directors and internal business partners, establish strong charitable governance and process for:
    • Overall Foundation management;
    • The Gay Lea Foundation’s relationship with its national charitable partner(s); and
    • The administration of domestic and international community grant programs
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Accountability: Lead the effort to select the Gay Lea Foundation’s national charitable partner(s) and international community grant partner(s), and manage relationships with, and the accountability of, all grant recipients.
  • Grant Administration: Design and implement the Gay Lea Foundation’s domestic community grant application, review, approval, and disbursement process.
  • Budget Management: Manage the co-operative’s community investment budget and, with support from the treasurer, the financial management of the Gay Lea Foundation.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of community investment programs and initiatives, and regularly evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure community investment activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and corporate policies, and manage any potential risks associated with these activities.
  • Reporting and Communication: Provide regular reports on the progress and impact of community investment efforts, working with the Communications team to establish a holistic communications plan that effectively communicates successes and challenges to Gay Lea Foods members, employees, and external stakeholders.
  • Engagement: Engage Gay Lea Foods employees and members in community investment activities through volunteer programs, corporate giving campaigns, and other initiatives to foster a culture of social responsibility and civic engagement at Gay Lea Foods.

Qualifications:

  • Five to seven years’ community investment experience, with experience in most primary responsibilities of the role and strong knowledge of the compliance requirements and regulations related to running a private foundation that is a registered charity in Canada.
  • Demonstrated experience translating community investment strategy into measurable business outcomes (employee engagement, brand, reputation, and marketing opportunities.)
  • Strong organizational management skills and previous experience in project management, including planning, research, time/task and cost control.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.Ability to effectively build relationships with internal colleagues, customers, and external stakeholders, including government and key influencers.
  • A high level of business/commercial acumen together with strong analytical skills.
  • Able to design and execute work with minimal supervision, demonstrated through project management, relationship management, or equivalent. Self-starter and independent.
  • Solid time management skills, with ability to track, manage, and meet deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • This is a hybrid role, requiring an estimated two-days per week working from the co-operative’s head office in Mississauga, Ontario.
