On the Mapu product team, we specialize in implementing data-driven solutions and models for project development, risk management, and decision-making processes in the fields of carbon credits, sustainable energy, agriculture, and forestry investments across Africa. As part of our commitment to innovation, we are seeking a talented intern to join our team and contribute to our mission.We are offering a 2-month internship opportunity for a talented and passionate Spatial Data Scientist with a focus on Climate-related Risks, Opportunities and Resilience Modeling in the context of Africa. As an intern, you will have the chance to contribute to our ongoing projects by applying your geospatial analysis skills and leveraging AI models, particularly LLM (Language and Learning Models), to improve data collection methods and support the implementation of data-driven solutions. This internship will provide valuable hands-on experience in utilizing open-source tools, geospatial data, and AI models to address climate-related risks in various sectors across Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in spatial data science, a keen interest in AI applications, and a desire to make a positive impact on sustainable investments in Africa.Responsibilities:Collaborate with the team to develop physical risk and resilience models for different regions in Africa using open-source tools, geospatial data, and AI models, such as LLM.Assist in identifying and evaluating climate-related hazards, such as drought and flood risks, that could impact various sectors in African countries, utilizing geospatial data, climate data, and other relevant sources.Contribute to vulnerability assessments of different sectors to climate-related hazards by analyzing geospatial data, sector-specific characteristics, and climate projections.Support the team in gathering and organizing geospatial data, conducting data preprocessing, and ensuring data quality for AI model training and analysis.Assist in applying statistical analysis, geospatial modeling techniques, and AI models, particularly LLM, to enhance data collection processes, automate data extraction, and derive actionable insights.Contribute to the preparation of written reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate research findings, methodologies, and recommendations, highlighting the role of AI models in supporting sustainable investments.Collaborate with team members and participate in discussions to provide insights, share progress, and propose innovative solutions that leverage AI models for data-driven decision-making.Stay updated on the latest advancements in geospatial analysis, AI models, climate risk modeling, and resilience strategies by conducting literature reviews and attending relevant webinars or conferences.Support the team in other related tasks as required.Qualifications:Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in spatial data science, geography, environmental science, or a related field.
