Health and Safety Specialist
Our client, a successful and growing 3PL is searching for a Health and Safety Specialist. This is a newly created role located in the Vaughan area
Responsibilities:
- Respect the company’s primary focus that is to ensure the “Safety” of the co-workers.
- Perform internal (co-workers) training, including New Hire Safety Orientation. Ensure proper documentation and record retention for all safety training to maintain compliance (Forklift, WHMIS, First Aid, etc).
- Perform periodic safety-related audits/inspections, prepare action plans, and ensure that appropriate personnel accountable for corrections are completed.
- Participate in the incident investigation process from beginning to resolution with appropriate management team.
- Implement any preventative actions as a result of an investigation.
- Provide administrative support and reporting capability, including preparing monthly training reports of co-worker participation.
- Prepare reports and presentations on safety and quality performance for management.
- Be the primary point of contact for WCB/WSIB matters as they relate to the Worker, Employer and Worker’s Compensation Board.
- Be involved in the Return-to-Work coordination along with Accommodation Plans for all work-related and non-work-related disability claims.
- Lead the JHSC preparing the Agenda, Minute Taking with follow up on action items.
- Assist in closing of Health and Safety audit gap findings.
- Monitor warehouse activities as they apply to safety.
- Perform risk assessments and job safety analysis as needed.
- Present safety-related information at shift meetings.
- Collaborate with appropriate department personnel to resolve identified hazards.
- Act as the liaison during external safety, fire, and environmental audits, including Ministry of Labour inspections.
- Perform other safety and CI related duties/assignments as deemed necessary.
- Responsible for all company locations, travel between locations is required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field of study.
- 3+years’ experience managing safety operations.
- Strong work ethic, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail, self-starter, and strong, interactive team player.
- Strong communication skills (Written/Verbal) with excellent presentation skills.
- Be competent in Microsoft Outlook, Work, Excel, Power Point.
- In-depth working knowledge of OHS, WSIB, WSIA, and Human Rights Legislation.
- Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives are prerequisites.
- Ability to multi-task in a high-pressure work environment.
- Integrative thinker and excellent problem-solving skills.
