Theatre Manager | Private Sector Up to £60,000 + Bonus Full Time Canterbury/Margate area JOB PURPOSE To be responsible and accountable for the management of theatre services across the Private Hospital sites to achieve the results required by the hospital; through effective direction and management of staff and the efficient use of the resources allocated. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Senior Management Team (SMT) Ward and department based multi-disciplinary team Patients and visitors East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust staff Consultants and Medical Team Visiting specialist teams and company representatives KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Management and Leadership To effectively manage the implementation of changes, which may be required by the organisation. To liaise with consultants regarding clinical preferences, techniques, procedures, theatre usage and equipment requirements and bring, where necessary, the same to the attention to the Head of Nursing. To ensure patient documentation reflects the correct procedures undertaken (OPCS codes) To define the staffing requirements for theatres to fulfil current and future clinical and business requirements. Work with the teams to attain and maintain a CQC rating of Good or Outstanding To allocate workloads to staff which are appropriate to their skill, experience, and competence. To instruct staff so that they understand their individual professional obligations and responsibilities as laid down by the AFPP Codes of Conduct. To monitor clinical practice daily to ensure that clinical standards conform to the Professional Codes and to the standards required by the hospital. To provide direct supervision and coaching to staff in their work planning and their clinical practice as appropriate to their experience and competence. To control the allocation and flow of work in theatres so that standards are preserved, and services are provided to other departments and customers in a timely fashion. To record and maintain accurate and comprehensive information on staffing and workload daily. To maintain excellent communication within all departments of the hospital and the NHS Trust To provide hands on clinical duties to support the service including scrub, circulating or recovery duties to a maximum of 40% of the role. Dependant on professional qualification. To complete administrative duties to a maximum of 60% of the role. To identify, plan and implement service development opportunities to grow the volume and profitability of the service in line with targets set by the Head of Clinical Services. The management of the endoscopy services. Clinical To be clinically competent in all aspect of the theatre work Use clinical knowledge and skills to provide specialist advice and support to peer group staff, patients, and relatives. To undertake clinical activities which provide opportunities to act as a role model to staff by own nursing practice and behaviour. To monitor, supervise and mentor other staff in their assessment and care planning, as appropriate to their individual competence. To provide direct supervision and mentoring to staff in their work planning and their clinical practice as appropriate to their experience and competence To monitor practice against policies and procedures relating to high-risk activities, to ensure that they are implemented and accurately practised. Maintain excellent relationships with all Consultant and medical staff in order to resolve problems and identify opportunities. To maintain patient care standards and to effectively implement changes to care delivery systems, methods and nursing practice in order to bring about improvements in the quality of care. Participate in research and audit and to implement actions identified from quality initiatives. Lead and support the theatre team through the process of change demonstrating tenacity, drive, professional integrity, balance, and perspective. Act as an advocate for patients within theatre care, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within relevant guidelines. Financial Maximise use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements To control the use of staffing resources within budgetary limits and to contribute effectively to the analysis and investigation of any adverse variances which may occur. To assist in the analysis and control of stock holdings of supplies so that they meet the clinical requirements and are within agreed financial targets. To assist with the analysis of equipment and resource requirements and provide information on the options and justifications. To assist in the analysis of working practices and implement changes which will eliminate wasteful methods and unnecessary expense. Business Development To review and develop services both internally and externally. To participate in a strategic marketing and development programme for the outpatient department, using research-based information To help identify, plan and project lead service development opportunities to grow business activities and profitability of the ward service in line with the targets set by the Head of Clinical Services To maximise managerial and practical skills within multi-disciplinary team. Participate in ensuring a service is provided and utilise all resources and manpower effectively within departmental budget and overall business plan. To evaluate the information available relating to the outpatient service and identify issues that the organisations need to address, according to changing business needs. To market, promote and profile ward/theatre service to all customer groups in partnership with other SPH sites. Quality Maintaining 24-hour responsibility for professional policy and procedural practice to ensure the continuance of best practice during your absence. Maintain hospital CQUINS in relation to the theatre department. Ensure that staff standard of dress promotes the professional image of nursing/ODPs and complies with policy. Contribute to the development of the hospital’s clinical governance framework, ensuring audit processes are in place to safeguard standards of care and promote quality initiatives which improve patient care. Co-ordinate and investigate any accidents or untoward incidents occurring in the theatre department. Investigate, or assist with the investigation of any lapse in standards and to initiate corrective action promptly. Work with the organisation to ensure the Key Performance Indicators are maintained. Ensure systems are in place so that all staff are aware of and work in accordance with Legislation and Company policies pertaining to Health and Safety, COSHH and infection control. Ensure that proficient risk assessment and reporting is being undertaken at all levels and lessons are learnt and implemented taking account of valid new evidence. Investigate verbal and written complaints and staff grievances followed by action, planning and publishing lessons learnt where appropriate. To participate in and assist SMT to maintain the ISO9001- Quality Management System, ISO14001- Environmental Management System, and Investor in People (IIP) awards.
