About the role: We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a forward-thinking, inclusive primary school in Hackney. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and who thrives in a nurturing, student-centered environment. You will be working closely with Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 students, providing tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning, manage their emotions, and build essential social and academic skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SEMH challenges and be skilled in using positive behaviour management strategies to create a calm and supportive atmosphere. Application Requirements: • Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs (essential). • A passion for supporting students with Special Educational Needs. • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. • Patience, resilience, and a flexible, empathetic approach. • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies. Key Responsibilities: • Support pupils with SEMH needs in small groups or on a one-to-one basis, helping them to engage in learning and manage their emotions effectively. • Work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to develop and implement personalised learning plans. • Promote positive behaviour and build strong relationships with pupils to foster a safe, supportive learning environment. • Help students develop their social skills, confidence, and independence. • Monitor progress and provide feedback, adapting your approach as needed to meet the needs of individual students. • Assist with classroom activities, encouraging pupils to engage in all areas of the curriculum.
