Summary
The Director Technical Services will coordinate engineering and technical resources to support mining and production operations. This role involves overseeing a diverse team, including mine engineering and planning, capital management, geological, projects, maintenance/reliability, and continuous improvement. This position will collaborate with various stakeholders while maintaining a high degree of autonomy. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), the role will be responsible for all technical functions at the production and mining sites and will serve as a close advisor to the COO and site leaders with the goal of restoring healthy tenets within the operations. Key responsibilities include overseeing key improvements that maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the sites. The role will contribute to strategic planning and provide insights for short and long-term projects. Engaging with operations personnel and corporate teams, the individual will offer technical expertise and innovative solutions. Additional tasks may involve organizing regular assessments of the company's mineral reserves and resources. The ideal candidate will promote global best practices as standards for the overall mining and production processes. Overall, this position is crucial for executing effective plans and enhancing operational efficiency. We are open to a remote employee for this position and they will be expected to travel 30%-40% of the time.
Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Lead in the practice of Compass Mineral’s Core Values to contribute to the success of Compass Minerals.
Lead the technical services team to collaborate with Operations and Maintenance for timely project execution.
Develop and maintain long-term and short-term strategic plans, including capital and infrastructure requirements.
Analyze, propose and manage budgets, technologies and resources for projects.
Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously.
Work closely with other functions and site leaders to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Manage process improvements; ensuring regulatory requirements are met.
Manage the Technical Services Team, monitoring performance, facilitating growth, and handle disputes.
Track and report capital budgets and project performance, ensuring effective forecasting.
Collaborate with corporate teams on project updates and communications.
Provide technical expertise and support to mining and production operations, focusing on risk management and safety compliance.
Conduct Financial Studies: Complete detailed financial trade-off studies to evaluate project feasibility and optimize resource allocation.
Implement New Technologies: Analyze and recommend new mining production technologies that support long-term operational efficiency and sustainability.
Develop Safety Protocols: Plan and integrate safety requirements into all projects, addressing assessed hazards and critical risks.
Mentor Team Members: Provide leadership, coaching, and development opportunities for both front-line and technical employees to enhance team capabilities.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science required.
Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience required, with 4 years of management experience preferred.
Preferred
Experience with an emphasis on underground mine planning and production optimization.
Experience in mining and/or manufacturing environment.
Experience with lean manufacturing/six sigma a plus.
Ability to engage and manage multiple stakeholders.
Sound understanding of financial costing and budgetary controls.
Willing and able to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
Good level of communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
Project management and Capital program implementation skills.
Broad knowledge of underground mine safety standards.
Excellent safety record.
Ability to demonstrate safety leadership required.
High proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Strong capability in Auto Cad and mine planning software. High proficiency in JD Edwards.
