Position OverviewPosition Title: LecturerSalary Range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. The current full-time salary range for this position is $70,295 - $186,446. Starting salary will be commensurate with highest degree, past college-level teaching experience, relevant industry experience and equity within the department.Percent Time: 11-33%. Applications will continue to be accepted until this date, but those received after the review date will only be considered if the position has not yet been filled.Position DescriptionThe Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in our department should an opening arise. These are not tenure-track positions - selected candidates will hold the title of Lecturer. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. Instructors teaching one course with three hours of lecture per week will normally be appointed at 33% time during the semester; exact percentages depend on contact hours and other assigned duties. Due to budget restrictions, no funding is available for visa or relocation expenses.In addition to lecturing responsibilities, general duties for these positions typically include managing and supporting Graduate Student Instructors, holding office hours, running laboratories and demonstrations, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus) and maintaining a course website.UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by the American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18.DepartmentDepartment: https://bioeng.berkeley.edu/QualificationsBasic Qualifications (required at time of application): Bachelor's or equivalent international degree at the time of application.Additional Qualifications (required at time of start): Advanced degree or five years teaching and/or industry experience.Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree.
