Description The Volunteer Coordinator plans, directs, monitors and coordinates volunteers for multiple programs simultaneously at our various facilities and collaborates with staff for a range of duties as assigned. Working conditions: Office work – majority of this role Some work outside in the elements 20 hours per week Some travel required locally in the city Cell phone will be provided Some weekend/evening hours may be needed per seasonal work KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Accountabilities: Develops or assists with the development of policies and procedures for the program as approved by senior management Participates in the development of the departmental budget, operates within the approved budget for financial control and ensures optimum utilization of resources Liaises with educational institutions and volunteer bureaus to promote volunteerism within the Ministry Unit and attract applicants Matches volunteer’s skills with work/activity needed within the ministry; prepares task lists for volunteers for guidance Recruits, orientates, trains, evaluates, recognizes and assigns work in concert with Salvation Army policies and procedures; works with managers to submit volunteer incident reports To be a positive spiritual witness to volunteers and program participants, and the general public through your work, speech, and positive and courteous manner; as opportunities may arise, to share the gospel. Matches volunteer’s skills with work/activity needed in the ministry unit; coordinates with dept managers in preparing volunteer opportunities and task lists for volunteers for guidance Maintains an approved record keeping system, tracking volunteer hours, etc. Develops, reviews, and revises volunteer handbook May assist with special events and outings, and seasonal events. Performs other duties as assigned Critical Relationship Management: Governance Boards and Councils: May interact with the Community Council/mission board as requested Internal: Coworkers, colleagues Dept managers Corps Officers Church congregation, and members External: Educational institutions, general public, volunteer sourcing organizations Managerial / Technical Responsibility: Reports directly to: CFS dept lead – currently Community Program Coordinator Direct reports for this position: none. The incumbent will coordinate and supervise volunteers, (no paid staff) Financial and Material Management: Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources. May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash. Little input to annual budget or revenue projections (only in relation to own scope of work) Will be responsible for tracking of spendings for volunteer Department’s within of the approved budget. May be responsible for procuring supplies, safety items, items QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Two or more years of community college in a related field. Certificate in volunteer administration would be an asset. Valid Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract Proof of Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check or willing to obtain. Abuse prevention course through The Salvation Army. – we will provide the training Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be qualified to work in Canada today to apply for this position. NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable Experience: A minimum of two years of related experience. Experience in building digital communication: slideshows, social media posts would be an asset Skills and Capabilities: Understand, support, and be able to communicate and model the mission, values, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada. Attention to details. Capable of successful independent work and working as a team. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) Proficiency with social media and digital communication. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
